there was a little window there where I felt like Microsoft wasn't being quite as terrible on policy and issues as the other prominent tech giants, but alas no, grok partnerships and Trump ass kissing make it clear they're just as amoral and soulless as they've always been

something that has struck me - being an MSFT employee - it's that no matter how well we've done on our earnings report, if the investor class is broadly worried, the employees will suffer. exceed our published projections by 12%? gotta let some folks go. sorry, hands are tied, investors are ornery

there's nothing we can do. positive performance will not be rewarded as long as the people with bloomberg terminals are feeling antsy. if we underperform? that's a rif too.

This is the exact reason I never give even close to 100%. I give maybe 30%, on a good day. The era of "do a good job and you'll get promoted" is over- has been over for 30 years. nobody is watching, nobody cares.

my wife was just shitcanned from her excellent job at a nonprofit hospital due to federal medicaid reimbursement freezes, and two years of "we're a family" rhetoric wound up being worth jack fucking shit, as usual
