The Associated Press has an excellent story about how FCC boss Brendan Carr bullied a Bay Area AM radio station for the crime of reporting on local ICE activity. facing existential collapse it immediately demoted journalists end replaced political coverage with safe public interest cack:

> KCBS demoted a well-liked anchor and dialed back on political programming, people said. For months, reporters were dissuaded from pursuing political or controversial topics and instead encouraged to focus on human interest stories Well that's depressing and terrifying at the same time

they literally blocked a reporter from interviewing Katie Porter because they thought it might upset Donald Trump and this is the progressive bay area!

behold, once again, how corporate media ownership and public interest journalism foundationally cannot be, and will never be, properly aligned it's why we need publicly-owned and funded media, which Carr is also trying to destroy with sham investigations

The replacement of journalism with lazy infotainment journalistic simulacrum. The demonization and dismantling of public media. The elimination of media consolidation rules. And now the ham-fisted censorship campaign against the few remaining major networks right wingers don't own. it's not subtle

the campaign results in a U.S. press that's incapable of being honest with itself (or its audience) about what's actually happening. Which a lot of ivy league brunchlord media folks used to breathlessly deny but has become so ham-fisted during Trumpism the facade has crumbled completely

I repeat myself repeatedly. Strange how The billionaire owned hobby corporate media propaganda machines Aren't reporting truthfully about The billionaires that own hobby corporate media propaganda machines Isn't it ? Teddy Roosevelt level antitrust law, FDR level economic reforms !

Will Democrats investigate Brendan Carr for repeatedly abusing his position in service of Trump? The mergers he helped push through should be scrutinized and broken up.

Democrats historically are pretty terrible on media policy. I'd like to see that change now that they have such concrete evidence of harm and criminal behavior.

Historically speaking, much of the shit we're currently living through could have been avoided if Clinton hadn't put his John Hancock on the 1996 Telecommunications Act. We need a Lina Khan type to run the FCC.

Political coverage in era of Trump: "In the weeks after the immigration story, Seelig asked Sovern to cancel an interview he had set up with California gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter out of fear she would say something negative about Trump, he said." Shameful.
