A president continually at war with some of the very best parts of this country. The US before Trump had many (many!) flaws, but—like our national parks & museums, the CDC, etc—we could actually be proud of our massive and incredibly diverse university system. So of course he wants to destroy it.

I agree with every word of this piece articulating the "Russification" of America under Trump, but the headline's thesis falls flat without prescriptive advice. Please world, treat us like a true pariah state! That's one concrete way to protect yourselves and save what's left of the US you knew.

I'm deeply worried. A majority of Americans will no doubt vote blue, but can we overcome the sheer magnitude of efforts to disrupt fair elections by the federal government + SCOTUS + GOP operatives + right-wing media? Millions of us will fight for democracy, but it's certainly not a fair fight.
