while hacking software automation will certainly be a real problem the anthropic engineer is a kid who is pushing the idea that AI is on the cusp of self-aware superintelligence at which point it will immediately decide to kill us all

It's cool that the people developing "AI" have the same level of maturity as a War Thunder player with access to classified military documents

I don't think anybody should downplay the risk of swarms of automated hacking agents causing real problems, but I also think a lot of these guys have just spooked themselves with their own card tricks

there's also the less discussed fact that a lot of these AI doomsday Silicon Valley folks voted for Trump, who dismantled all of our cybersecurity, public safety, and regulatory firewalls, so maybe a little fucking instrospection

the immediate threat, to me, is not that these systems become sentient and pull an AM on the world, but that they operate as misaligned swarms of individually dumb but coordinated agents -- think digital termites, chewing their way through any open network don't need superintelligence to do damage

I honestly can’t tell who is arguing which part anymore, but so much of it seems like we’re getting lost in the semantics. This technology can be so dangerous (is so dangerous!), and not because it’s ‘self-aware.’ And there are measures that are sure to help: Regulation, taxation, accountability.

‘Look at meeeeeee I am building the Terminator’ exhibit gazillion . I guarantee you this little twerp knows absolutely nothing outside his tiny sphere and has never opened a book unrelated to his job.

I dunno about the kill-us-all thing, but the next major problem with Ai is going to be its ability to hack other systems. Hugging Face was just the beginning.
