I think it may be because the party establishment is terrified of challenging corporate power in literally any meaningful and consistent way

That Democrats aren't doing things we need them to do "because they suck" is true; it's also unhelpful; you know much better than we do what is missing in pressure and potential support for leadership to act better and voters to get better leadership. It's worth thinking about specifics.

Example 1: Biden admin's framework for regulating AI powerfully motivated AI company leaders against him, and didn't rally any support at all to balance that. Why is that? I'm too ignorant and dumb to answer that, but you aren't. How can we change that the next time.

I’m fully in agreement with you here that saying “Dems must do something!” Isn’t helping Do you know what was in Biden’s proposed framework? I’m totally unclear on what needs to happen re: AI (keep data centers separate for this)

Civil/criminal liability if the agents/chatbots break the law seems a no-brainer, though is that Trump’s DOJ not enforcing existing law or do new laws need writing? What else are people knowledgeable about this saying needs to happen?

After we use Dems to oust the authoritarian, we must evaluate which Dems are bent on keeping the system that got us Trump. Then vote every one of them out. Pushing crypto? Bye Gilibrand. Loyalty to Israel and AIPAC against the wishes of the majority? Bye Schumer et al. Vote all corporate Dems out.

Putting this out as a recollection that might be wrong: seems to me that in the late 80s & early 90s Dems were shell-shocked from their losses to Reagan and Poppy Bush ... this was abt the time that they adopted the credo that business is good too ... & they've been in a defensive crouch ever since.

Asking genuinely: what do you think they should do regarding AI? AI specifically—data centers seem to be a different set of issues that need regulating Civil/criminal liability for the company if it’s chatbots/agents, whatever—their products—break laws & cause harm seems obvious What else?

Be consistent on antitrust (see failures on paramount), push hard for privacy laws and data broker regulation that include executive culpability, make restoring regulatory agency autonomy a priority to protect labor and environment, expand the supreme court to begin restoring corporate oversight

We should’ve had privacy & data-broker regulations for our online activities a couple decades ago, are there any new AI specific concerns there? The rest of those look like enforcement of existing laws (which maybe need thorough updating though) or…

the suite of big structural reforms, like expansion of the Supreme Court, that would need to happen even if AI wasn’t a thing yeah? Not saying any of this as a diss on your answer, which I appreciate! Just trying to understand how much we need new & maybe novel legislation to address AI and…
