Jack Smith requested, and the judge granted, dismissal of the case without prejudice — which technically leaves open the possibility of future prosecutors refiling charges after Trump's presidency.

Technically, as in: It. Will. Never. Happen. If new DOJ is unsuccessful in amending the motion to with prejudice, Trump will self-pardon (or resign with 24 hours left for JD to pardon him) or a MAGA successor in 2028 will pardon him. It’s done. A fork, in it stick!

AFAIK a future Trump DoJ can't amend the motion as the judge has already ruled. And yeah, maybe he'll never see justice, but don't underestimate the backlash that's coming if he tries to rule as he says he will, and the extent to which it could transform the "status quo is fine" Dems.

True, judge has ruled. But I am near certain Trump DOJ can and will just file a new motion to change the dismissal to “with prejudice,” and suspect that the judge will allow it. As for any backlash - hopefully it, if at all, won’t come too late and we have the opportunity for a course correction.

One reason, the Dems are still playing by the rules & policies while Rs haven't since 2016. I have no idea why our Dem leaders think being 'right' or 'better than them' is more impt than keeping fascists out of the Oval. History will not be kind to those who just rolled over for the fascists.

Oh please he will be dead before then with his McDonald's eating a** 🙄 Clearly our Justice system and especially Merrick Garland are complicit in protecting the ultra rich or he wouldn't have waited 2 years before even beginning a case against him with Jack Smith.

Either Trump is going to pardon himself, or somehow have his AG make some sort of order that makes it forever impossible for the DoJ to prosecute him. Or he dies in office. One thing I'm sure of is these cases will never ever be tried.
