san diego is unbeatable. but also (as a midwesterner-cum-east coaster before migrating west) the quality of your average vons/albertsons in socal is criminally underrated. You've not actually had a strawberry until you've been to CA. see also bsky.app/profile/fain...

Also, most of the produce comes from Central California – not LA or The Bay. I love being up to just roll up to someone's farm and buy fresh figs in their driveway. Ridiculously better than any store-bought figs I've ever had.
