Deaths from heart disease down 75%, that’s NIH. Deaths from stroke down 75%, that’s NIH. HIV/AIDS no longer a death sentence, that’s NIH. 99% of FDA approved drugs in the last decade, that’s NIH. Please show this video to anyone who doesn’t understand why the NIH is so important.

Every time I see this administration cut funding for very impotent stuff, I'm just reminded of Sim City 2000, where if you cut back on transit funding then consult the advisor, he just says, "YOU CAN'T CUT BACK ON FUNDING! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!!!"

NIH is important, but this is misleading: Heart disease & stroke fell from lifestyle shifts, EMS reforms, not NIH alone. HIV/AIDS became manageable via pharma & activism, NIH was slow early. 99% FDA drug claim twists basic research links; real R&D is private. Stop rewriting history.

NIH funds basic research — vital, but not drug invention. Pharma risked billions to turn lab science into real treatments. Heart & stroke survival rose thanks to tech, public health, global efforts. Progress is collective — not a government monopoly.

Genuine medical progress stems from a synergy of: Basic research (some funded by NIH, some by private universities, some by other countries). Private sector innovation (biotech/pharma). Public health movements and cultural shifts. Global collaboration (Europe, Japan, etc...)

Many good points in this post! But for some audiences it's a risky strategy to emphasize all the FDA-approved drugs. Many people like RFK Jr and his supporters believe, not without reason, that Americans are over-prescribed drugs and that the pharmaceutical industry has corrupt influence.

I agree. The FDA approves drugs, not the NIH. But I have the impression that the distinction between research (like the NIH funds) and policy (like the FDA sets) isn't clear to many critics. So exalting the NIH's success at creating lots of drugs could just fuel more suspicion in some audiences.

Don’t bother showing it to any Republicans. They seem to have become either completely fact-resistant or sociopaths who don’t give a damn. The GOP doesn’t believe in science, democracy, or even in counting things. But they sure do believe that a criminal should be President.

NIH gave me 10 more years with my mom, when in the mid-80s they gave her an experimental new surgery- angioplasty. Thanks to them such a complicated procedure became routine giving countless people more time with their families.

It's not that anyone is hiding or gate keeping the video, its that the target audience we need to comprehend the video has been trained to not believe what they see with their eyes or hear with their ears, rather only listen to what Daddy Trump says. There is no fix...
