+1.8 degrees Celsius? No it's wayyyyyy higher. Take a look at the panel with professor Vaclav Smil in 2024. youtu.be/z1qOCHG-Dmk?...
We are on track for 1.6+ this year.. I really dont see how it can be 1.8 with the exponential factor and the fact certain countries are still trashing the planet (cough US of Arses). I would love to be wrong be the numbers arent adding up dashboard.theclimatebrink.com#global
These monster climatic events are our new normal. Climate deniers, you can run, but you can’t hide from them.
Hurricane Lowell just EXPLOSIVELY intensified from a 90 MPH Category 1 to a 125 MPH Category 3 in only 3 HOURS. This is a nuclear rate of intensification for the open Central Pacific Ocean, and Lowell is now forecast to approach CAT 5 intensity about ~500 miles SE of Hawaii.
To be clear, overshooting 1.5 degrees is not an invitation to give up. It means we have to work even harder to return to a lower baseline. The authors emphasize: “Every fraction of a degree matters, and every year spent in overshoot increases climate risks and the potential for irreversible losses."
We’ll flirt with 1.8C next year thanks to the El Niño and blow past 2.0C sometime next decade at the latest. It will be too late to prevent 3.0C by the time we make any meaningful reduction in carbon emissions. We will have to capture carbon AND use geoengineering in addition to emissions reduction.
