MAGFest, I love you dearly. I also love Bit Brigade and live to be in the front row of their concerts. However, I feel like this situation was not handled well at all. If a huge change was made to a policy, it should have been made public.

If a lot of discussion is happening on a post, please don't delete it and repost it with no changes. When rules are changed they should apply to everyone, not arbitrarily. "Who else but" wording is insulting to the rest of the community, which is full of creative and talented musicians.

"Hey guys, Bit Brigade is a huge seller and we need to book acts like this more often so we can sell more tickets. We are sorry about how this discussion was handled and we are looking at ways to help lift up and publicize all of the incredible musicians in our community."

It's kind of wild that a bunch of people were mad enough about this to risk jeopardizing their future chances of performing at Magfest, and a repost with the same typo to try to clear quoteposts was the chosen way forward

It's just sad. We're knee deep in the "who cares" age of human history, and Magfest was supposed to be 4 yearly days where the answer could be "we do" Seeing them flaunt in their PR that they embrace the era of not giving a shit makes me really sad.

WELP. We removed the first post to fix this specific typo, and then literally posted it again accidentally and didn't notice until about a half hour ago. We're obviously not going to delete this one, due to the discussions happening in the replies. On that topic...

The page with the more firm rule about not double-booking bands was created by our previous music team, and we were not aware it was still live and accessible on our site. We DO try to avoid repeat bookings, unless there are specific cases (in this case, a new MMX performance that matches our theme)

well this brings up another point, then. the theme usually isn't announced beforehand, so what influences these decisions? performers usually don't base their entire set on one thing (excluding groups like Metroid Metal, who also played consecutive years based on MAGFest theming)

Like, I understand there aren't really a lot of winning plays right now; you can't un-book Bit Brigade, this isn't their fault and they should not be blamed for people wanting to see them. But a lot of people who are really important to Magfest are very upset and there's real damage being done here

However, we've since updated that page with the guidelines that are in line with our internal policies over the last few years. We're genuinely sorry about the confusion. Bit Brigade is the only exception to this rule this year, and we're extremely excited to hear their new MMX set!
