Two characters finally, dramatically come to terms with their relationship and their feelings for each other, something that's been simmering for seven seasons. Then at the last second, they say "nah actually I'm good" and immediately revert to the status quo

I started upgrading some of the blog infrastructure this week. I updated my SEO plugin for the first time in probably a decade and found that it is now a bloated side-app that locks most features behind a paywall and tries funneling you to buy AI credits instead. Cool

Feeling the Obscuritory blogging bug again

I also really love this infographic we did. The magazine archive is a collaborative effort. We've scanned thousands of magazines, but we're also relying on years of scanning work by the community and partnerships with the industry. It takes a village!

We've passed over 5000 out-of-print magazines in our digital archive! This is a big milestone that wouldn't have been possible without our community of supporters, collaborators, and industry partners. And it's about to keep growing. Learn more...

I think almost every scan of Computer Player was done by VGHF. This has not been a high-priority magazine for people, so I'm excited that we're making these accessible for the first time in decades

Maybe my favorite photo from this collection is the booth for Shenmue at Tokyo Game Show Autumn 1999 It's a forklift. It's just a forklift.

I was the only person in that showing of You Can See Everything with the Guile hair popcorn bucket.

In the Japanese PC-88 port of Ultima 3: Exodus by Pony Canyon, if you try to Talk/Transact (T key) to an enemy monster, they literally say "FUCK YOU!!" in English. Hilarious, and apparently nobody has discovered or posted about this before online in English or Japanese

I looked at this stupid site again, and I'm pretty sure they just scraped a bunch of fan wikis and asked Claude to "summarize the game design." So it's just a mishmash of statistics and content summaries organized in a way no human would ever use. What a cool original website you made!

This was supposed to be a game design wiki, but 1) every page is made of unreadably verbose lists which contain links to other lists and 2) halfway through it turns into a essay about business opportunities in solar energy production

Another day where somebody sends me what they think is a cool video game research project, and it is actually a wall of impenetrable AI nonsense that looks authoritative but is totally unusable I think we need a word for something that appears to be intelligent but is basically gibberish

One time, we got an unsolicited package promoting a game history slopsite like this. It proudly declared that the PlayStation 5 was the "first five-dimensional game console"

The Mareepathon finally ended on Day 21, over five times longer than it had been going when I posted this video. I am totally desensitized to Mareep now
