Google and Apple found a way to charge you a monthly fee to use your phone, didn't they? Any good self hosted solutions for Android and iOS backup?

I bought iMazing to try and get away from iCloud, but if you dont have the full sized photo files on your device, they can't be backed up, so I'm still using iCloud for that, and then download to the Mac. 😐

That optimize-storage loop is frustrating once full originals get offloaded to the cloud. You could keep originals on your phone temporarily and offload them straight to your Mac over local Wi-Fi via SyncDrop.

i use syncthing to backup my android phone to two computers whenever they're connected to the same wifi, that's enough redundancy for me 🙂

Yup, this is what I use as well. Also have a VPN on my router so I can VPN back to home network and sync across internet if I need/want to. Keeps files on my pc, phone, tablet, and steam deck synced.

I use immich for my photos.

Installed Immich last night and tested with VPN access today. Working well so far!!
