"Extraordinary circumstances" will mean that if you contribute money or do favors for the administration you can get in or your company can get people in. So this is also laying ground for more corruption.

And they've been doing it for decades. I started as an undergrad in computer science in 1983 and I can't imagine where I would be without researchers and entrepreneurs who came from other countries. The US has been a magnet for the world's top talent and we're just pissing it away.

There have been a lot of repatriations of distinguished Chinese scientists, though the ones I read about seem to be close to the end of their career. What's worse is that the pipeline for new researchers is probably drying up. We are losing the advantage we had for decades.

It’s like spending a ton of money to build houses, while adding technicalities so only those with local grandparents get to install plumbing. A few people benefit who think the town/country is theirs because of who their grandparents are. But don’t be surprised when the town/country falls apart

Back in Feb 2024, a yr before the election, I was describing to a friend in advocacy/organizing the research I was doing with Noah Rosenblum, and they said “That sounds catastrophic for the US, destroying science and universities with all the downstream effects. Why is no one talking about this?”

I still don’t know why the national public debate is not focused on this. We are lighting on fire perhaps the key pillar of the US economy and the whole basis of the US position in the world.

This country deserves to be thrown into the trash. It's going to be trash on fire anyhow. ALL this new AI that is being shoved down our throats means less taxpayers contributing to the pool which as AI EVEN POINTED OUT TO ME will leave many holes to infrastructure & health funding. We'll be INDIA. 🙄

I came here on an E1 (my UK company wanted to expand into US and we hired Americans - I supervised). Got married and she sponsored me, supported wife who had been RIFFed (who had a child from before, and we had one on the way). Took a year and a half to get Green Card.

My parents are immigrants who came here on green cards. My father came over as a doctor and professor. When they heard about this tonight they said they would’ve just moved back to Ireland if these were the barriers when they were applying for citizenship.

Maga people don’t go to university. They have no idea they benefit from education and immigration, they are just angry and jealous. They will destroy everything, given enough time. And still they won’t have a clue what they did.

And today, TODAY, 5/22/2026, this guy says he is "the smartest guy you will ever meet." And a certain segment of the population will believe that. And gawd help us, it's true. #publiceducationmatters #criticalthinkingisinourbrain #logicmatters

I wouldn't be here contributing to the USA economy, pricing jobs to usa citizens, training the next generation of scientists and making new translational scientific discoveries towards treating pediatric brain cancer, if this policy was in place when I needed a green card.
