Yes and: The White House grounds are now behind a big fence, so it’s not always in your face. What is most obvious to me living in DC are the national guard everywhere, in the metro, walking by kids schools. That occupation gets coverage but it’s hard to convey precisely how it’s daily life here

I was thinking the other day how those not in DC (I'm not) aren't hit as clearly with how Trump has turned the White House grounds into something between construction site and waste dump. Genuinely upsetting. Far from the worst thing he's done but among the most tangible and graphic.

I love DC, worked there, used to walk 30k+ steps a day when I visited and I refuse to go back until he's out and they've torn down the fencing. My daughter is at the age where she will start appreciating what DC has to offer, too, and I can't do it.

And I just saw this about attacks on schools that harm DC: “Fallout from the new Head Start proposals continues (as my friend reminded me, it's been a rough week for everyone in the [child ed] space). This is part of the Trump playbook…”

“If there's a program [they want to kill] that needs Congressional approval to get rid of, their first play is to gut the program, revoke its regs, and attack its funding.” So it’s not just science. We talk about science because it’s easy to explain. (Cutting cancer research affects us all.)

The National Guard Humvee posted near the Lincoln Memorial now has a lil tent in front so the soldiers can stand in the shade, and it’s been parked in the same spot so long the grass is literally growing up around the wheels Someone should call the HOA
