With all the Alberta unofficial referendum results in, a 🧵 of some findings. Qs 1-5 all prevailed narrowly, but Q2-4 had slightly more NO ridings than yes. Q1: 48 ridings yes, 39 ridings no Q2: 42y 45n Q3: 43y 44n Q4: 42y 45n Q5: 61y 26n Q6: 33y 54n Q7: 35y 52n Q8: 27y 60n Q9: 31y 56n

Smith's constititiutional questions were blown away, in a way that conservatives in Alberta simply never get rejected by voters. Every Edmonton AND Calgary ridng rejected Questions 6-9

Referendum results suggest there's still a solid blue UCP wall in Alberta. 27 ridings voted Yes to all the questions. All were rural/small town. 24 ridings voted No to all nine. Orange wall? Includes much of Edmonton, some Calgary, but also St. Albert and Banff-Kananaskis.

I'm really struck by the AB ridings what went no to some, yes to others. Alberta's swing seats? Some of them surprised me. voters in Red Deer North and South defied Smith on a question, as did Airdrie-East and Airdrie-West. Also a y/n mix: both Lethbridge seats, Edmonton donut (except St Alb)

Five NDP-held Calgary seats and all 11 UCP-held Cgy seats voted yes to some ref Qs, no to others. Interesting: Calgary-Shaw voted more like other UCP seats in Calgary. Deputy Premier Ellis' Cal-West voted more like the city's NDP seats.

If there was an income tax penalty or rebate for voting around $200 what kind of turnout would elections expect & what could that do to results? Are there that many people that literally don’t care or do they mostly think their vote has no impact. Pro-rep might help turnout too.
