I'm really struck by the AB ridings what went no to some, yes to others. Alberta's swing seats? Some of them surprised me. voters in Red Deer North and South defied Smith on a question, as did Airdrie-East and Airdrie-West. Also a y/n mix: both Lethbridge seats, Edmonton donut (except St Alb)

Five NDP-held Calgary seats and all 11 UCP-held Cgy seats voted yes to some ref Qs, no to others. Interesting: Calgary-Shaw voted more like other UCP seats in Calgary. Deputy Premier Ellis' Cal-West voted more like the city's NDP seats.

Smith's constititiutional questions were blown away, in a way that conservatives in Alberta simply never get rejected by voters. Every Edmonton AND Calgary ridng rejected Questions 6-9

Referendum results suggest there's still a solid blue UCP wall in Alberta. 27 ridings voted Yes to all the questions. All were rural/small town. 24 ridings voted No to all nine. Orange wall? Includes much of Edmonton, some Calgary, but also St. Albert and Banff-Kananaskis.

New polling from Environics on immigration. From the most-watched line graph, not back to where we were, but a significant bounce back.

Amazing. First Orban, now Vucic. The Kremlin has unexpectedly lost two of its top allies in Europe…

Mel Woods, always worth reading.

As a journalist, I’ve covered the anti-trans movement in Canada for almost a decade at this point. There’s a lot of room for change from here. My advice tonight is that we all slow down, take a big breath, and ready ourselves for the actual fights to come—and don’t panic over the imaginary ones.

Getting this out of the way early: if you share vote prediction screenshots for individual ridings from election projection websites And frame it as a poll or something with authority And there has been no actual polling done in that riding I will think much less of you please don't annoy me

I feel scene.

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

With all the Connor Hellebuyck to New Jersey trade coverage I'm honestly shocked that we haven't seen 'A Helle of a deal with the Devils' as a headline yet

From Danielle Smith's address last night. At the risk of being pedantic, it seems worth noting that a) it wasn't a coalition and b) the confidence-and-supply agreement was only in place for two and a half years.

After the referendum, watch for both factions of Danielle Smith’s coalition to show up en masse to try to assert control of her UCP. But it hits different when the sides aren’t PC and Wildrose — it’s separatist and federalist. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

cbc.caANALYSIS | Alberta separatists lost the vote. They'll continue their fight inside Danielle Smith's party | CBC NewsAfter the referendum, the UCP leader hardened her support for a united Canada. Much of her base has other ideas.

Alberta’s Question 6 (change constitution so feds don’t pick high court judges in provinces) is now losing, as is Q8 (no conditions on fed grants) Danielle Smith Decision Desk already declared victory on Qs 1-5, so watch next year for extra fees for temporary residents’ health care services, etc

This is a publicly funded government agency refusing to share weather warnings and their own public warnings with a journalist at Global News, one of the larger mainstream news outlets in Canada. I really want you to sit with the bare facts of that.

If you remember the Alberta referendum results being delayed last night for voting in Lavern Community Hall (in Cardston-Siksika): the vote there ended up being 307-6 (98%) in favour of Option 1.

Alberta's Globe and Mail might reassign a reporter or two to outposts like Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver again one day. But until then, we're focused on what shapes this country. Wainwright coverage continues today and we will fire up our referendum blog shortly.

Wow. 43.1% of all eligible voters have already cast a ballot in Alberta's refendum. (837k in advance polls, 519k by special ballot). With 1,356,873 votes already, it's likely to blow past the 1,763,441 ballots cast in the 2023 provincial election.

I’m no legislator but it seems like sanctioning Russia would be a fairly central part of a Russia Sanctions Act

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

Russia is now exempt from the Lindsey O. Graham Russia Sanctions Act. The US government is clearly allied with Putin against Ukraine. Vote Republican enablers out.

Mind-boggling. The sovereign citizen wallet inspector asked, and the tax agency just handed it over.

He followed a debunked conspiracy theory to claim a tax refund. So why did the CRA agree to a $40M payout? Wild story. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
