It's fairly astounding that Congress basically feels unable to push back against extraordinarily ignorant anon ExTwitter trolls because the world's richest troll retweets them.

My read is that a large number of members of Congress are either afraid of how much he's willing to spend in elections or hopeful, so they are giving him deference he can't handle because he doesn't actually have interest in governing.

But of course Elon loves the attention so he's just deferring to his favorite trolls instead of learning how the government works and advocating for things he believes should happen. Which makes things worse than just literally telling the government what to do.

If Washington could cross the Potomac these guys should be able to cross the aisle to protect the authority of their own institution instead of playing party politics and protecting the nutjobs who want to destroy everything we've achieved.

It is after the election, and voters won't remember this in 22 months. Trump, in contrast, never forgets people who cross him. So basically it is a contest between "what's good for national stability" and "not pissing off the party boss". There's nothing astonishing about which choice won.

This is the end game of Citizens United, an oligarchy that essentially paid and owns the Presidency and threatens representatives with funding primary opponents. It wouldn't matter if congresspeople ran for office out of duty, but they run for the power and money.

It's not Citizens United that's the issue here. People (especially on the left) WAY overindex on CU, which did significantly less than people believe.

I actually do think it's generally a good idea to pay public servants and civil servants a good wage so that (1) good people are attracted to those jobs and (2) aren't tempted by corruption and grift. And they haven't received a raise in over a decade. So, yes. I do think they should.

Is it astounding that people who gain power care more about that power, keeping that power, keeping the proximity to bigger power it brings? Is it astounding they will protect their wallets instead of principles?

And he is being played by Putin. A very shrewd player. Trump is toast in their hands. He lost control. Magat's are like the Germans in 1933. It's the Democratic side of America who must Fight, Fight, Fight

Makes you wonder why Republicans bother running for Congress. If you want to waste two years of your life engaging in public ass kissing and self-humiliation, there are cheaper and easier ways to do it.
