"USPS posted a *$9 billion* loss in 2025." did the US Navy post a profit last year?

🚨SCOOP: Amazon is preparing to sever ties with USPS and expand its shipping network as a true coast-to-coast rival. It could cost USPS more than *$6 billion* a year in lost revenue, and lead Amazon to dominate yet another facet of the economy. USPS posted a *$9 billion* loss in 2025.

Public services are not SUPPOSED to turn a profit. They are there to SERVE THE PUBLIC GOOD. (This is also true of education. It is not a business and should not be treated as one.)

I LOVE going to my local post office. The people are nice and helpful and supportive and I get what I need for a reasonable price. My neighborhood mail carrier is fantastic. In other words, they are part of the community. Amazon delivery people sub-par at best. FEDEX AND UPS are just OK and random.

Are we gonna pretend that Dump hasn't anyway promised Bezos that once he does this, he'll eliminate the USPS and contract it from him? That is next.

Since 1981, the USPS has been required to fund its operations through the sales of stamps, products, and services rather than tax dollars. The Service’s financial struggles are not simply a result of declining mail volumes, they are also tied to congressional restrictions. tinyurl.com/4kn735xa

Fukken *good.* Being Amazon's errand boy has cost the USPS so much in terms of service overburden that this "lost revenue" can only really translate into "lower overhead" at this point. Next, tell me how clean drinking water is "unprofitable" until a data center vapourizes it all to make deepfakes.

This guy is on this beat all the time, reporting about USPS losses because "by law they have to break even." I don't know, man, have a brain, even a little bit. Be an intelligent human being, not just a D.C. politics nerd obsessed with "scoops."

They want to pull the hubs back even farther. Complete bluff. No carrier wants to do last mile delivery that USPS covers. Esp with 2 day delivery commitments. USPS should be revamped into a world class system with all this latest tech that’s being wasted elsewhere in the government. It’s a service

It's ok to talk about things through multiple lenses. USPS doesn't need to deliver 6 days a week (probably could get away with 4 for non-meds). Many areas could adapt where to put mailboxes so they don't have to drive 2x distance. You can say it's a vital service that needs reform.

Is USPS still requiring that pensions are fully funded for 75 years? If so, that's waste. Fuck the ballroom, fuck ICE, fuck reducing safety regulations to build new nuclear plants for the benefit of AI & private tech, fuck the hooptie Quatar plane they unloaded on Trump, fuck buying interment camps.

Will everyone that wants their mail to arrive in a timely manner have to pay for a special service? I smell grift and more privatization. We are headed to a corporate government where corporations' rule. The Post Office is in the U.S. Constitution. Article I, Section 8, Clause 7—

---often called the Postal Clause—explicitly grants Congress the power to "establish Post Offices and post Roads". This gives Congress exclusive authority to create and regulate the postal system, which was later established by law in 1792.

briefly, a) I think there’s still plenty of utility in a state run physical mail system even if it’s not super popular b) it’s in the constitution and I suspect legally can’t be eliminated without an amendment

It all depends on what you want our federal government to pay for. And you are correct, the USPS is an entity mentioned in the Constitution, and shutting it down would likely require a Constitutional Amendment, which can't happen because our elected Elites don't do that anymore.

I'm an old man, so what do I know!? But I do know that I would like to live in a real democracy where these kinds of issues are dealt with by the people I send to Congress to represent my interests. I see the "problem" of the USPS as one part of the rot at the heart of the US federal government.

Ask yourself, "When was the last time I mailed a letter to someone?" and if your answer is not, "Within the last month," you would be a member of the majority. Our postal service could be GMail, but a decision was made many years ago to forego that option, and we're now where we are.

Sometimes things created by men go the way of the dodo, and maybe that's the way it should be. I don't think I want to live in a world where the institutions of the Holy Roman Empire or what became called "The Inquisition" still exist.
