I don’t think non physicians realize how for real physicians, vaccines is a controversy like flat earth or creationism or birds aren’t real "No true Scotsman" actually holds here it's hard to really describe how baffling this is, how frustrating its been to see grow and how high the price will be

The bad: measles cases in the U.S. are more than double what they were last year, with 96% of cases being unvaccinated. The good: Pennsylvania has so far administered 14,000 more vaccines this year than last. The dream: The anti-vax movement is deservedly shunned and everyone gets vaccinated.

I find the prediction markets pretty much useless when it comes to “who is going to win” beforehand, because the sentiment is infected with the personal biases of the degen crypto sickos who participate what they are usually good at is doing math once the results start to come in

every billionaire is a policy failure

A single billionaire megadonor is propping up the Republican effort to stop Dems from flipping Pennsylvania’s Senate and gaining full control of government—to a much greater degree than Elon Musk is doing it at the federal level

Trump claims he has successfully blocked cocaine from entering the US with his maritime military campaign. The opposite is true, and it’s showing up in overdose mortality numbers. I analyzed newly available CDC data and found that cocaine involved deaths are up in more states than any other drug.

It's similar with abortion - they say they want better evidence but they break the systems for building strong evidence and elevate weak systems because they know those systems will empower their allies to inject bias into the "evidence."

HHS wants a new Medicare code that pays doctors extra only when they attribute a patient’s symptoms to a vaccine. Vaccine critics say doctors are paid to push vaccines. We aren’t. Under this code, we’d be paid to blame them. My new piece in @cidrap.bsky.social: www.cidrap.umn.edu/childhood-va...

Lesson here goes way beyond weightlifting.

Patrick Wyman@patrickwyman.bsky.social

If you're in there putting in honest work and you post it, I'm gonna tell you that you're a badass and you should feel great about yourself; if you try to use that lift to claim superiority over other people, you're inviting comparisons to serious people, and that's probably not gonna go well

Also for what it is worth, it DIDN'T actually label them as illustrative — and the deception was only apparent because I know the data well. That's scary, because if you use AI for everything, you wouldn't know the data well enough to catch its deceptions.

Cheesecake Factory is the most American thing because nothing about it makes sense, from the name to the decor to the menu, but there's a lot of it and you can't deny you kinda want it.

In America you can call everyone from Somalia “low IQ” and imply that every Muslim is a terrorist and the media will just shrug its shoulders, but come after the decor of the Cheesecake Factory and they will come for you.

parents, please check your kids' Halloween candy this year. I just found a single plum floating in perfume in a man's hat in this Snickers bar

Wait wait! In addition to all this: Real Clear isn’t some spontaneous thing, it’s a rightwing site funded by the same far-right billionaires - Koch, Uihlein, Bradley, etc - that want to tear down the govt, incl to destroy US cancer research. Real Clear is part of the Project 2025 effort.

So in a huge surprise to absolutely no one, it turns out that NIH director Jay Bhattacharya's new journal based on the premise of letting his friends and only his friends publish essentially whatever they want is full of crackpot nonsense from retired cranks.
