Not really, no. It has more to do with historical protectionism (pre-2001) and after that ended it’s more about the economic draw of the US south (which happens to be what de-industrialized large swaths of the US midwest, also) They have huge plants in NorAm with NorAm standards, just not northern

Yes that's been gone on for a long time, But now we Canadians can never again trust the Americans. And even pre trump it's been a problem in last years. We need to diversify Japan or South Korea or Europe. Even if we eventually get a deal, that weasel could tariff us a day, week, months later.

As an American who semi studied car design, you are literally 1000% correct and I'm not even joking. Shove a kei car style tax insentive in there around anything Honda Fit sized or smaller and you have a winning strategy to see a DECREASE in vehicle size for the first time in decades.

Yes it’s sort of a bit but also I am serious, a lot of specifics of how we do things are bad in a specifically American way and it’s about damn time we realized we can do better for ourselves

Mr. @mark-carney.bsky.social, the people of Canada yearn for closer regulatory integration with the EU so we are not forced into American trucks with American values

The EU seems like a bit of a mess tbh, and the thing where any EU country sufficiently in Russia’s pocket can hold a veto over adding countries to the union seems insane to me

I feel we can do better than joining them just through closer ties, and with other countries in Asia and elsewhere. Also, joining the EU would probably take a decade or two lol
