New tunes for the Labo(u)r Day weekend!

ScrobbleRadio@scrobblerad.io

Was the only candidate of the five that supported it. Bummed that Ward 1 still has an anti-ION councillor, given you could argue it’s the Ward that could viably gain the most from it.

It’s good thing Doug Ford cancelled all those renewable projects and doubled down on nuclear in Ontario 🤦‍♂️

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

This is so on point.

The attacks on safe cycling infrastructure are feeling just a little bit like the assault on the rights of transgender people. Both a wedge and a way to fire up the base. They don’t care about you. They just want to manipulate you.

I've been giving VectorCraft and PhotoCraft a spin the last couple days and these apps are maturing tremendously fast. I used them initially when they launched and most of those rough edges have been rounded off. I'm of the belief that Adobe may very well have a serious problem on their hands.

And they're about to be put to the sword for it. Adobe haven't been arsed to release their products on Linux and now it's been done for them (along with Mac/Windows). I'll give Canva/Affinity/Figma some credit for creating some variety of competition in this space, but their time could be up too.

I spent the last month previously checking out the state of creative tools on Ubuntu, and while Affinity could be installed via Wine, it was a decidedly non-native experience that was clearly a bandaid. Now the genie is out of the bottle and I'm not sure any of these companies have an assured future

I'm now using a pretty damn serviceable tool on Ubuntu, which is really a huge win here. I'm a 40+ year Mac user that's now weighing my options because with Golden Gate Apple chose to stale date my Intel hardware. Now if you're a design professional, there's actually capable tools on Linux.

As the world looks for alternatives to relying on US software, here's a vibe coded alternative that is striking at the heart of the creative industry. For a long time Adobe hasn't been our friend, turning essentially feature complete apps from 20 years ago into a SaaS product.

I find it wild people use Apple Music and are frustrated with its recommendation algorithm. I listen to one song I saw recommended here on Bluesky and it’s autoplayed about 10 bangers one after the other. I feel like the habit of constantly adding new music for my playlists has honed it greatly.

The cost of electricity is about to go up in Ontario. This announcement comes at the same time that the province has agreed to import oil and gas generated electricity from New York, a state he previously threatened to cut off electricity to. #ontario #onpoli #dougford #frankdomenic🍁

Fear is the civilization killer, is the most effective propoganda on the planet. We have a moral obligation to savage and destroy the fear. To skewer the merchants of fear. Them who bait the world into anti-action, into retreat, into cowardice against good. Mock them.

The complete lack of consequences for the ruling class is really supercharging the AI threat. Every other day they're just like, btw, here's three more illegal thing our product does, good luck with that, we continue with our quest to destroy everything you love

I keep thinking about the ending of the show Silicon Valley, and how they basically sabotaged their own company to save the world from an AI that would basically undo civilization. I feel we’re almost there, only there’s nobody with the ethical moral compass to pull the plug, like in the show.

This slow motion race for becoming the top track of all time is almost coming to a close. Don’t Swallow The Cap has held this title for about 14 years because I apparently really liked it and built this huge lead (for me at least). I don’t listen to tracks or artists in quantity, so my numbers are

tiny compared to many people. I listen to radio all the time and find those greatest hits tracks by bands I liked historically have been slowly creeping up, since those songs still get regular radio play. So it’s just been this multiple year race to see what song would eventually take the prize.

I’m bilingual enough to get by when it comes to French (took 6 years of French Immersion in elementary school) and I looked at an Indeed alert for a remote job in Quebec and now all it sends me are French jobs 🤦‍♂️

A #WarOnWalking. A war on biking. A war on public transit. A war on any transportation choice other than driving. A war on better cities. But a war on cars? Hardly. Cars still get most of the space, rights, budget, prioritization, etc. And any effort to add more choice is immediately attacked.

Urban Truth Collective@urbantruth.bsky.social

The WAR ON WALKING has taken many forms around the world. It’s often as simple as how we signal who space is and isn’t for. Once our eyes are opened to all the ways we’ve prioritized cars over people, we can’t unsee it. Frustrating photo contributed by @stadsplanering.bsky.social. #WarOnWalking

Decided to delete that Adobe app quote post. I'm unsure of the validity of it. I tried some of the photo app and it failed to do some of the basic stuff in PS, while standard shortcut patterns didn't work. Who knows if it it'll be worth checking out in future 🤷🏻‍♂️

4 of the 5 candidates at the Cambridge CBC Mayoral town hall didn’t support the ION Phase 2. At least the one for, Scott Hamilton, is our probable next mayor.

Went to this tonight. Felt Scott Hamilton was easily the most polished and articulate. The highlight for me was how all the candidates good applause after they spoke, except for Mayor Liggett. Her unpopularity in the room was palpable and her crotchetiness was obvious.

Are Toronto's bike lanes really empty? Charlie Buckley hit the streets to count cyclists, dug into city data, and compared the numbers with major cycling cities around the world.

Makes me think of how Microsoft skipped Windows v9 and went to 10 because they didn’t want to be behind OS X (10), only for Apple to start iterating 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15 after iterating v10 for 19 years.
