During the depression my mother was taught how to freeze eggs. She taught me, I taught mine, they have taught theirs. 2 years ago, I bought a freeze drier and starter to freeze dry them instead. With 5 chickens in my backyard in town, I give eggs to my two elderly neighbors. They are 90yo

Does anyone know if the egg prices are a result of a few egg producers gouging us, or if the prices in some way supports struggling egg producers stay in business? The latter would help me feel better about prices, but the former requires a boycott.

It’s because of the ongoing avian flu. It’s been in the US awhile, but it’s gotten worse, and the only option when your flock catches it is to kill your whole flock since we’ve not put any money into researching a vaccine like France and other countries.

I usually get my eggs from a local co-op (and am raising chicks now), and even there they’re expensive. I’m not totally sure, but my guess it’s a mixture of general state of things, flock owners trying to recover, and high demand. But it’s a nightmare no matter the cause :( GL with eggs friend.

Awesome: saw this on Reddit a few days ago, good to see it's breaking. Someone did the math: a dealership would have had to sell a vehicle every 60s for these numbers to be not fraud, and it was also noted that someone has to claim the rebate(s) by name and VIN. Oopsies.
