A fantastic Trailer for what passed pre-JAWS as a Summer blockbuster. THE TOWERING INFERNO (1974) Off a $14m budget it grossed $203m & had an epic fight between Hollywood Agents representing McQueen & Newman over top billing. #PaulNewman #SteveMcQueen

That was the mid-70s era of disaster movies. Towering Inferno, Airport, Earthquake...... www.imdb.com/list/ls07139...

Poseidon Adventure!

Newman and McQueen were top billing. But look at the rest of the cast.

Still gets a 7.0 on IMDB in 2026! 70s was the Golden Age of disaster movies; Airport (which spawned the brilliant Airplane spoof), Poseidon Adventure, The Hindenburg, Earthquake, The Swarm, Meteor etc. I’d add Omega Man + Andromeda Strain as being in the same class tbh.

I saw this in the theatre when it came out with my whole family.

The most overlooked thing about Towering Inferno is the fact involved two major studios. An unheard of thing til Irwin Allen worked out the deal.
