A fantastic Trailer for what passed pre-JAWS as a Summer blockbuster. THE TOWERING INFERNO (1974) Off a $14m budget it grossed $203m & had an epic fight between Hollywood Agents representing McQueen & Newman over top billing. #PaulNewman #SteveMcQueen

“I don't believe this story. Doesn't make sense.” ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN (1976) For my money the greatest Political-Thriller ever made and one of my favourite movies of all time. #JohnMcMartin #JasonRobards #JackWarden #AlanJPakula

“Get your brains together, get educated and get a trade.” The Greatest —MUHAMMAD ALI — tells Dick Cavett in 1974 that he & Joe Frazier were special, rare, but the way to really ‘win’ is to get learning and get a career.

“The legend is that if you're given to lying, you put your hand in there it'll be bitten off.” ROMAN HOLIDAY (1953) This iconic moment was sprung on Audrey, so her shocked reaction was totally for real.

This was a MASSIVE hit, raking in over $173m — that’s nearly $2.4billion in today’s money — off just a $2.2m budget, making it one of the highest-grossing Movies of all time (when adjusted for inflation). LOVE STORY (1970) It was also nominated for 7 Oscars.

HARRISON FORD had a deleted cameo in Steven Spielberg’s E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL (1982) playing Elliott’s school principal. Ford’s face was obscured and Spielberg cut the scene concerned Ford’s fame would distract from the childlike perspective.

Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) was released on VHS and LaserDisc in the U.S. 38yrs ago today, 6yrs after its 1982 theatrical debut. It sold over 14 million units, becoming one of the best-selling home video releases of the era.

If you love Comedy & Comedians then you’ll love this documentary about the comedy world’s “inside” joke — as told by so many of the greatest stand-up comics of all time it’s crazy. THE ARISTOCRATS (2005) (God knows how many times I’ve watched this)

“This is what we always do we go in with our ideals and we ‘change the world’ and then we leave. We always leave. But that ball though, it keeps on bouncin’.” CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR (2007) #TomHanks #MikeNichols

LOU REED in 1983 trashing The Beatles (and British music in general). But Reed was well known for being a contrarian, anti-establishment, bipolar & changed his mind on The Fab Four and their solo work (especially John’s) regularly, so for me this is more hilarious than anything.

If you love HOLLYWOOD, if you love HOLLYWOOD history, if you love the dark underbelly of HOLLYWOOD - then you’ll love SUNSET STRIP (2012) A terrific documentary on that very special 1.5 miles of Sunset Blvd. Even better, it’s free on YouTube.

The great LILY TOMLIN talks about working with RICHARD PRYOR on the iconic “Juke and Opal” piece for her TV special ‘The Lily Tomlin Show’ in 1973. Pryor once said of Tomlin — “We are soul mates.”
