On Valentine's Day, a student asked the swordmaster: "What shall I give my beloved?" "A sword. It shows you trust them, and trust their abilities." Satisfied, the student left. Another student asked: "I am single, what shall I do?" The swordmaster thought. "Buy yourself a sword. You deserve it."

I'd rather hope he's friends with a good blacksmith. And with other weapon masters he can send you to if you're not good with swords. And with other villagers they all can arm and train if their lord steps out of bounds.

I think swords are a much-neglected mental health intervention; it's almost impossible to be sad when someone hands you a sword.
