Obviously, this is amazing BUT the thing I love most, is that it's directly poking fun at the desire/fetish to overanimate overlapping action & smears. Asking someone of James Baxter's calibre to *intentionally* do this (as well as mess up the spacing on a bounce) is funny in the nerdiest way.

tbh, i love the art style so much here... wish that gumball and darwin always looked like this... however I am not a fan of the over animation at the end. Still, i get it was for the joke XD

From an animator and artistic perspective the "head swaggle' (thank you milt kahl) was used to emphasize smugness, snark, or simply bring out personality in a character to add emphasis to what theyre saying. Its quite difficult to pull off in the way Milt did but overall brings out life in the char

I know the shorthand to why it's done, but because it's used so often in these films and is generally not something that people without neurological conditions do in real life I just feel like it could be toned down somewhat -- and nowadays it isn't quite so overblown, for better or worse (better).

Tbf alot of animation exaggerates on purpose and thats part the appeal and fun of it for people. Most animation i feel is meant to defy reality and physics for a reason (toony slap stick humor or simply depends on the animation style). But its fair if some arent into it.

You can thank/blame Milt Kahl for a lot of that! He was noted as master of the 'swoggle' iirc, which was basically motion while doing something else/talking. Apparently hard to do right, and Milt was also apparently very good at it. But did it a LOT 😄

Yeah, I'm not saying that the animation was bad, just that it got overused to the point that it irritates me. I STILL have trouble sitting all the way through "Aladdin" without wanting to strap all the characters to a gurney just to see if they could move their mouths without their heads wagging.

I’m not saying these things are bad! There’s just a compulsion among animators (myself included!) to dial them up to the point where they dominate, rather than support, the action.

yeah I'm not saying that either lol. more like as you said, its a compulsion not really a fetish plus that also depends on the perspective, and wants of the animator usually doing super smooth animation in moderation helps better than having it all the time

Oh my GOSH, they over exaggerated the exaggeration to sublimely exaggerated levels! That's glorious XD "Ooo, boingy ears and walk! Not very Gumball but it's cute. Wait. Why are they jello. OHHHHH" It's just so askdfd Artist Joke I love it

Really hoping this episode wins awards because it is so intentional. Same for the whole show reboot. A master's class in animation and using it as a catalyst for character dev and storytelling.
