What are your favorite weapon & armor rules for a #CRPG? Looking for inspiration that is less complex than Dwarf Fortress, but more complex than "X weapon damage minus Y armor rating". #rpgdesign

Prior to 4e GURPS split armor into PD and DR, passive resistance and damage resistance. PD made you harder to hit (adding to your defense roll), DR soaked damage.

ADOM has a similar split. It has never felt primitive or underdeveloped to me.

It's a case of rigid armor deflecting attacks due to shape/material composition. Both Scale Armor and a Steel Breastplate might have a Damage Resistance of 4, but Scale's Passive Defense is 3 while the Breastplate's is 4. Modern EOD armor might have a DR of 30 and a PD of only 3.
