Screenshots of "Rainbow Rockets" 🌈 πŸš€ the game that asks: What if unicorns pursued space flight using rainbow-powered engines? (Inspired by #spaceflight simulator, #ksp #kerbalspaceprogram , and of course #unicorns)

🀫 Secret: I haven't beaten the final mission (to circumnavigate the planet) yet. If anyone beats it, please share some tips.

The #js13k theme is Unicorns and Rainbows this year. I think I have the rainbows nailed down, now how can I convince you that unicorns have a space agency? #gamedev #ksp #kerbal-like #javascript

I left Bluesky for 7 months just because the app stopped auto-logging me in. So either I am very lazy, or needed a break. Maybe both.

If 3D card prices explode, I guess we'll have to make lower fidelity games so that more people can play them. And that might force us to instead invest in fresh gameplay to help differentiate new games from existing titles. And maybe this means smaller, innovation focused teams. Hmm...

As I've wrapped up with #seaofcannons v1 for #gameoffjam, I have a few paths... - Start on a 2d rocket game - Expand on Sea of Cannons - Continue my Ultima-like - Do yet another game jam (bit jam, 7drl) - Youtube video on the making of Sea of Cannons

Name ideas: Sea of Pixels, Sea of Cannons, Battle for the Ectoil Sea, Cannon Party, ... ? πŸ—³ The plot/lore is that you're poor ship-captain mercenaries fighting over a sea region that is flush with "ectoil", a fuel from dead leviathans. The gameplay is just pew-pew though, so it's not that deep.

Finally some #screenshotsaturday shots of the game I've been working on for a few weeks for #GitHubGameOff It's a 2d, #javascript, physics-based, #p2p game where you frantically fire cannonballs at each other to get the high score. It still needs a name.

The answer to how do we keep kids safe online isn't destroy everyone's privacy. It's not force people to hand over their IDs to access legal content. And it's certainly not ban access to the tools that protect journalists, activists, and abuse survivors. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

Many games focus on Safety (combat), Reputation, Achievement, and Personal growth (for the player). But I would like to see more that borrow from The Sims + survival games.

I decided to let myself be distratced by a game jam for November ( #GitHubGameOff ). Making the 2d waves is fun, as is re-learning #pixijs, #matterjs, #peerjs. The goal is to make a #p2p #pvp game where you fire cannons at each other. Like Scorched Earth / Worms + Sea of Thieves.

Thinking back on the billions Facebook spent on the metaverse... and wondering why they didn't try to build a Steam/itch clone as a first step? Seems like the obvious move for a for-profit company with a giant network.

This has many of the things I love: β˜‘οΈtiny moons, β˜‘οΈweird beautifully ugly aliens, β˜‘οΈrobots, β˜‘οΈprocedural generation, β˜‘οΈecosystems.

Hi #PitchYaGame! In Biolune, play as a robot fascinated by organic life. Gather friends and resources, and cultivate evolving ecosystems where there were once deserted moons. Including seriously bizarre procedurally generated plants and animals. Wishlist: store.steampowered.com/app/3070190/...

I can relate to this! My #js13k game was rated poorly in part because the gameplay was slow and lengthy. I always set out to make something "fun" that will "win"... and then settle on an overly complicated game that I (and only I) find interesting.

The main takeaway from #js13k 2025: don't sink time into big, complex, self-contained concepts you don't have resources to finish properly. Start small but complete - then polish it as far as you can. Next year's goal: get the game to playtests and tune the gameplay from there πŸš€

I guess you can patent basically any vague thing? I hope this dies promptly in court.

πŸ˜³πŸˆβ€β¬› This is a tough theme. Bad/good luck, witches, night stealth, Poe, ... ? I bet a lot of games just feature a black cat character.

Brianna is building an Ultima-like -- like me -- but hers is so much more advanced and polished. Finally it exists on Steam for wishlisting.

Exactly 13 DAYS left to start #js13k 2025! js13kgames.com We've added first batch of this year's Partners, Experts, and Prizes to the website and will be announcing them all in the coming days. #gamedev #gamejam #compo #competition #codegolf #challenge #JavaScript #HTML5 #indiedev #indiegames

What are your favorite weapon & armor rules for a #CRPG? Looking for inspiration that is less complex than Dwarf Fortress, but more complex than "X weapon damage minus Y armor rating". #rpgdesign

I didn't work on #WULF too much this week, but I did build a town, complete with shop names, and added some new sprites for townsfolk and crops. #screenshotsaturday for a #webtech #Ultima #Ultimalike framework, a #CRPG #gamedev project

I'm working on implementing a shop and inventory/equip UI. It's a challenge to keep it simple, retro, and yet easy to use and understand. #screenshotsaturday for my #WULF ( #webtech #Ultima #Ultimalike framework ) #CRPG #gamedev project

Also a challenge because the interface part of the framework code hasn't really taken shape yet. I also need more utilities to make it a little prettier.
