I'm not sure we have a more explicit example of an artist who said "hey, if you give me any money I will definitely go hurt this small group of people with it, so.... money please??" Some situations have nuance. She smashed all nuance with a sledgehammer years ago.

This. TBC, the reason my family won't support anything HP-related is NOT because I have some grand moral view that it's only acceptable to support work created by good people. It's because she is literally, publicly using the $ from her books/show/games/etc to do bad things that hurt people I love.

It hurts my heart because the books and movies and their debuts were so inextricably tied to happy memories of raising my potter aged children, but letting that go is the only moral option.

There are a lot of situations with a lot of artists where my stance is "I'm not putting anything in their pocket but you do you." We crossed that line with her a long time ago. If you give her money, knowing what she's going to do with it... I think less of you.

And yet there are people who have written way more fucked up books who still aren't doing the level of damage she is. This is not about what's in the books it's about what she's doing with the money

I get it and I agree. But I don't like how much conversation today has been about "well they were always bad books" as if what we should do now would be different if they were good books. She is so far past that, you know?
