Thinking today about how Georgia is the one in our neighborhood that is trending blue and also Georgia has early voting. I wonder a lot what voting would look like in Alabama if we had something even that helpful.

Over 100,000 people have already voted today in Georgia in the first day of in-person voting.

Add allowing *any* resident the ability to vote by mail, and it’s approaching representative democracy. I’m still wary, as the General in ‘24 was crazy busy, with lines nobody had seen before and….

We (Washington state) already have our ballot info pamphlets, but the actual ballots don't go out until later this week. We also have Election Day voter registration. So if you don't get a ballot in the mail, you have until Nov. 3 to figure out why not, fix your registration, and still vote.

I'm still trying to figure out my local-level votes (like city council stuff) but once I have that I will be dropping my ballot at my local polling place!

Unfortunately, Georgia's political shift isn't due to voting logistics, but rather the changing demographics of the electorate from 3-4 decades of more diverse/liberal in-migration to the state (primarily metro Atlanta). Lots of observant folks saw it coming 20+ years ago.

Alabama absolutely should have early voting like the overwhelming majority of states, but what the state really needs is about a million less conservative folks to make it their new home.
