I will not call posts here 'skeets.' Never mind that where I come from, that word would typically refer to a blood-sucking, disease-carrying flying insect, there is a simply better portmanteau to be used. Bleet, a homonym for the sounds sheep and goats make, is perfect for posting to social media.

Scott Presler is one of the GOP’s most famous election integrity guys. He spends all day reminding his followers to β€œreport any suspicious activity.” The Bulwark did, and an election lawyer said it isn’t a close call. Remember this next time MAGA starts up the voter fraud nonsense. Link in reply.

There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters: 1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence 2. They want to the GOP to win

The name of New Mexico is funny because it's one of those things that you'd think is really simple (oh, it's it used to be part of old Mexico, so we'll call it New Mexico!), but it's much more complex New Mexico as the name for the area predates Mexico by several hundred years!

But, like, New America wouldn't make any sense because this is still the original America and... You know what, forget it

If you've got a TikTok, maybe spread the word there about the MUSK movie. You might also mention it on other platforms and IRL.

The right is spending the day complaining that Abdul El-Sayed was "rude" and "a bully" to Tommy the Republican Operative at his town hall, which is hilarious given how they had nothing to say about a woman getting beaten up at a Trump rally as the president cheered on.

Clear takeaway: If you don't want the US government (under Trump, or anyone else in the future) or Elon Musk personally to surprise you by cutting satellite internet access you thought you had secured, the only way is to not use anything made by SpaceX. Otherwise, the risk will always be there.

Doesn't matter who is technically responsible. Starlink can't be trusted with work loads that are important. That's what this episode proved. Hopefully every responsible government, organization acts appropriately.

β€œThe oil and gas industry says it’s a β€˜good-faith’ partner eager to help craft regulations, but time and time again, it’s worked behind the scenes to delay and weaken them. As a result, the United States today emits more methane from its oil and gas sector than any other country in the world.”

While testifying to state regulators I did the back-of-envelope math on what it takes for a 100 MW data center to keep its diesel backup generators online in an emergency and ~2 trucks an hour is standard there. Really underappreciated piece of the overall impact picture.

Ossoff is acting like Trump/MAGA/GOP and what they’ve done to the country is Actually Bad. Charismatic and well spoken, which sure helps. But no β€œmy friends across the aisle,” no acting like the imaginary β€œBaileys” are the only ones who matter, no β€œdon’t talk values, only kitchen table.” That’s it.

Bill McKibben@billmckibben.bsky.social

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

In five games, Byrum already has more interceptions than he had all last season. Half have been tips or bad luck, but he's also been hesitant and late on a lot of his throws; it seems like more than the change in defensive speed, etc. and like there's a lack of confidence there too.
