all I know is that the steak'n'shake location near me went out of business several years ago and now the building is occupied by a mexican restaurant, which I think is just perfect

the guy who owns it had a meltdown when he couldn't achieve a hostile takeover of cracker barrel he's been attempting for decades, so he started a culture war over it because he was legally barred from talking shit about cracker barrel himself. this is not a joke.

for anyone interested: look up sardar biglari and his involvement with both companies, along with the who started the crusade against cracker barrel and its ceo (along with the logo), then look at who blocked sardar from taking over the board of cracker barrel.

That wasn't the only thing. Biglari basically turned steak n' shake from a regional chain that was struggling into a scheme that extracts wealth from franchisees. It was the Quiznos model where you force a franchisee to buy a lot of overpriced stuff from your supplier. Happened when they rebranded

Sardar Biglari's villain arc was specifically crafted to test my ideological integrity I am pleased to say it went from "my favorite place to eat on trips" to "somewhere I will never eat again and hope goes bankrupt" in a single week early in 2025
