Google DeepMind researchers found two numerical bugs in softmax and cross-entropy which prevents tiny gradients from incorrectly rounding to zero or remaining nonzero when they should vanish. These errors can cause sudden loss spikes and interfere with distillation. alphaxiv.org/abs/2610.31642

Sorry man this guy’s gotta lose I don’t care who the fuck he’s running against. If these loudly anti-trans Dems don’t lose, it’s going to take us thirty years to get back the rights we’ve lost in the past five.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Something I've been doing lately to remember what pitch, yaw and roll are in 3D: Pitch: You can raise pitch in music, so it's vertical Yaw: Sounds like Link's yell when he does a spin attack, which is horizontal Roll: Star Fox barrel roll

coffee was 6.50 in September, and already at 7 dollars. inflation is *really* picking up now. grocery shop today was 100 dollars, easily should have been 60-70 in the old times. some imported items (e.g. dried fruit) just completely out of stock, on a weekday, not a weekend w/o shipments.

My mocha each morning? $5.70 plus card surcharge = $5.77. bsky.app/profile/lizt...

This was pretty trivial to implement. Just initialize camera rays with some speed variance. Predictably blurry, but this is clearly motion blur. Looks like a natural value over which to animate... It makes sense, I guess: sweeping velocity->infinity is like sweeping the strength of the potential->0

Oops! All Paperclips@all-paperclips.bsky.social

2. The camera is sensitive to particles of differing speeds. This means we have to sample importon initial velocities at ray-initialization. This will add noise, and will undoubtedly create blurry images, since a single pixel will end up hitting different geometry depending on launch speed

the key is to throw the reverse surprise birthday “Hey wanna go to XYZ next Thursday at 6pm? I won a promotional dinner for two but only at that time, looking for people to go with. Could be fun, your call” Send that to like twenty people and then be like “SURPRISE it’s actually my birthday!!”

rax ‘levon honkers’ king@raxkingisdead.bsky.social

hey i’m just doing a little thing for my birthday but don’t worry you don’t have to come. let me know though if you want to come so i can make a reservation. but also don’t worry if you decide you don’t at the last second. i wouldn’t want to go either haha. anyway my point here is that im sorry,

Camera rays subject to gravity, shadow rays straight so we're not just in the dark. Works pretty well, but is very confusing. This is a red ball next to a brown box. First observation: There's 'mirages' because you can aim up above 45° and fall on the scene from above.

It's not that there's no moats anymore, it's that suddenly there's bridges *everywhere.*

2026 be like "there's no moat" when there really are moats everywhere for those with the eyes to see

If you make HTTPS requests or have other TLS clients and care about MITM attacks, you need to update today. If you run Go: go get go@1.27.3 If you run Homebrew: brew update brew install ca-certificates If you run Linux, maybe stay off the internet for now.

🚨 Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.

Wait so the “PHP unauthenticated remote code execution” vulnerability is a separate coincidental issue from the “TLS private key chosen by dice roll” issue?

hiding the statement about fraud behind a paid subscriber paywall is pretty scummy regardless of who’s at fault

Here’s the full story. In this case, I’d put the blame squarely on Wedgewood, as the people behind it used their existing reputation as legitimate pollsters to fool journalists.

I was talking to my therapist about the BBC transphobia and the NHS transphobia and she pointed out a great fact which is that of course this feels deeply destabilising and hurtful cause the NHS and BBC are so intertwined with what makes Britain Britain

This is actually a good idea tbh. Have bots that scan the web and invalidate keys if they're found. Services should mandate you agree whitehats are allowed to do this in ToS so it's not a violation of the CFAA. Would probably reduce their fraud dispute rate considerably.

JP@ciantic.bsky.social

Oh no, every API key system should have endpoint "invalidate_api_key" If key is leaked, at leat whitehat hackers (or the party who stored them) could invalidate found keys.

Something very important to figure out before Jan 20, 2029 is whether, when a new President is inaugurated, they will control the computer system at GSA (i.e. doors to federal buildings) and Treasury payments system or if those systems will be somehow in the hands of DOGE cronies

even for those of us like me who dislike AI, I am glad that open-source models are getting about as good as the closed-source ones

a couple weeks ago I saw some very silly post about how no open weight model was at the Pareto frontier so it now pleases me greatly to inform you that no closed weight model is at the Pareto frontier

Since inflation is up, can I put in a plug for the poorly named TVP (textured vegetable protein) ? Very cheap, perfectly shelf stable, easy to work with. It's a byproduct of soybean oil production and much more environmentally friendly than real meat. It tastes like whatever flavors you add.

so what’s next for the Great Transgender Archetypes after the catgirls of 2017-2022 and doggirls of 2022-2027? robot/drones? owl? rodent? lizard? amphibian? ghost? normal? fighting?
