He should just appoint someone.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com

We all know this still stinks to high heaven. Gov. Andy Beshear says he still hasn’t received an official update from Sen. Mitch McConnell. “I’ve had no official response. Nothing sent to our office, no letter, no email.”

Why do the democrats always feel like they have to follow the rules? Republicans don’t. Hell Graham wasn’t even cold yet and they gave his seat to his unqualified sister.

He can just appoint someone. Send them to Congress. Then sue when they’re not seated. The Kentucky law barring him from doing so is against the state constitution.

Sorry - it was evidently too much of a burden for me to take three seconds to google that issue. To those who are as ignorant and lazy as I: Kentuckys constitution gives the governor authority to appoint people to vacancies for statewide elected officials. Beshear vetoed the 2024 law on this basis.

In 2021, the GOP legislature passed a law mandating that anyone the governor named as a replacement be from the same party as the incumbent. That was to prevent Beshear from replacing McConnell with a Democrat. The 2024 law superseded this.

You better believe it. If the governor appointed a democrat to temporarily replace McConnell republicans would raise him from the dead if need be. We would finally get the truth.

The Kentucky law barring him from doing so is against the state constitution but that's not the problem here. Acordind to the "US constitution" the seat is NOT vacant. I keep trying to say this. A Senator is only removed via death, resignation. or by 2/3 senate vote.

Governor could attempt to name a temporary successor anyway, citing Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution, which he argues grants him the inherent executive power to fill vacancies that would essentially force a constitutional crisis, daring his political opponents to block the appointment.

I think the best Governor Andy Beshea can do is to keep building Public pressure on Mitch and Republicans to tell the truth about Mitches Health, and if Mitch cannot preform his duties due to health, build Public pressure to call for his Removal Via Senate vote

But first the senate seat needs to be vacant. At this point unless death or resignation, the seat it still held. No official action can be taken to replace them because a "vacancy" does not legally exist until a senator dies, resigns, or is explicitly expelled by the Senate via vote to remove

They did. And an utterly corrupt, unqualified, nepotistic cipher at that 🤮 Never ran for — much less held — an elected office ✅ Never educated in law, government or international affairs ✅ Ever sycophantically faithful to drumpf crime regime ✅
