He should just appoint someone.

We all know this still stinks to high heaven. Gov. Andy Beshear says he still hasn’t received an official update from Sen. Mitch McConnell. “I’ve had no official response. Nothing sent to our office, no letter, no email.”

This trend of senators and representatives just going MIA has got to stop. McConnell, Kean, Granger… No communication, just not showing up for their constituents. Drawing a paycheck, receiving benefits. The level of entitlement they feel they have is disgusting.

Yes. Just like Obama should have sent Garland over to the Supreme Court for a swearing in, on the theory that the Senate had waived advise and consent. In my imaginary world, anyway.

From the posts I’ve read here on Bluesky, it seems that Governor Bashear is unable to appoint an interim Senator because the Republican lawmakers in his state officially eliminated the governor's power to do that. Senate vacancies are now required to be filled exclusively through a special election.

What happens at a real job in the real world is you are temporarily replaced... And "if" you are able to recover well enough to do your work, you can reclaim your job.

people run a pic through an AI detector and say it’s not AI. You don’t think people know how to manipulate it? You would think he would call or invite the governor. Or send a video of how he would vote on current issues and appointments. Nope. Demand to see him in person or appoint someone.

Why do the democrats always feel like they have to follow the rules? Republicans don’t. Hell Graham wasn’t even cold yet and they gave his seat to his unqualified sister.

I’m not necessarily in favor of her being the replacement. It’s more of a honoring gesture by 🍊 who loves to control and who better to tell her LG’s projects? She has some public service experience but I’m expecting her to be the lady Lindsey always wished he was. .

He can just appoint someone. Send them to Congress. Then sue when they’re not seated. The Kentucky law barring him from doing so is against the state constitution.

The Kentucky law barring him from doing so is against the state constitution but that's not the problem here. Acordind to the "US constitution" the seat is NOT vacant. I keep trying to say this. A Senator is only removed via death, resignation. or by 2/3 senate vote.

Governor could attempt to name a temporary successor anyway, citing Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution, which he argues grants him the inherent executive power to fill vacancies that would essentially force a constitutional crisis, daring his political opponents to block the appointment.

Incorrect. The "law" barring his appointments is illegal by the Ky Constitution. His Options: A: Appoint a temporary replacement B: Initiate a Special Election to fill the seat C: Immediately appoint a replacement until such time as they have a special election (like graham) D: Keep being a coward

Baloney. It’s time to act, create headlines, lawsuits, judge’s orders. If the law is working, then any impropriety can be handled through the legal process. Meanwhile, the people get to know what is happening.

This is the problem. The GOP blatantly flout the rules and get away with it and the Democrats are "oh eventually things will go back to normal" This is the new normal and they need to adapt to it.

This is what I think! The Gov. should just declare McConnell dead in absentia or something, and appoint a Dem as a replacement. This will force the Senate GOP's hand to produce hard evidence of McConnell being alive. No more phony photos or phone calls.

He should schedule the special election. Under current Kentucky law, the governor can no longer appoint a temporary replacement to fill a vacant U.S. Senate seat. Instead, a 2024 state law mandates that a special election be called by the governor to let voters decide on the successor.

Beshear should appoint a Democrat and force the issue. The KY constitution says the Governor appoints. The law the Rs made up is unconstitutional and has never been litigated. It's quite possible the KY Supreme Court would uphold the constitution and throw out the Rs law.

McConnell's announcement said he went to a rehab facility. Does anyone know where? It is not public information. Also, the Republican state legislature changed the law so the governor cannot appoint a replacment--there must be a special election now.

Presume he is incapable, call the special election. Appoint a temp if the law allows right away. They had time to notify the Gov. of the situation. McConnell's statement said he was not going to return to the Senate, what ever that means. His staff does not replace him, they are staff.

Does he have any idea how much his political stock would soar if he did that? I’m sure someone can respond with a dozen reasons he shouldn’t get my vote or whatever, but he’d instantly br a guy getting presidential love if he showed that level of fight.

His team posted a healthier looking McConnell so I would think the Governor should be allowed to visit him in the hospital. I think McConnell should at least call the Governor to check in. He won’t because he’s brain dead. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is that possible? Appoint to counteract the disappointment in resolving the unknown Glad the rules are rather straightforward in baseball or other sports when instant replay services are allowed Not even a replay is allowed in Mitch o Connell politics of what's going on sincerely

He cannot. Kentucky Republicans passed Bill 622 in 2024, removing the governor's power to temporarily appoint a U.S. Senator. The Republican-led legislature overrode Gov. Andy Beshear's veto to enact the change.

If he was Republican gov. he would make a meeting, even go to the hospital. If this was a Democrat, he would be hunted down even by the media. Pres. Biden was pestered by repetitive inquiries about his health from sun up to sun down. Where are all those people now? They are quiet as a church mouse.

He can't just appoint someone. Kentucky mandates a special election, but a date for one can't even be set when McConnell's condition isn't even known. And thanks to HIPAA laws, nobody can even force anyone to come clean. Of course a whistleblower or reporter could get info, but where are they?

The Kentucky law mandating a special election conflicts with the state constitution. Andy could 100% have that fight, but he lacks the intestinal fortitude to throw the punch. Still, he could also call a special election, and if Mitch is still among the living he can have it nullified.

And again, if Andy had an ounce of spine he could absolutely do either of those things right now and force the Republicans to fight him. Nothing is stopping him but his desperate need to pretend it's still 2015.

Mitch is the main Architect of this Country's rapid descent. Ushered in Citizens United. Blocked TWO SCOTUS appointments from the Dems. Had the votes to Impeach Trump TWICE, but punted "The Problem" to the Biden Administration. The List goes on ...

He's a Democrat. Can't be doing anything assertive or bold Has to be by the book Establishment Dems always Gotta Respect the Republican far right Christian fascists while they get their democracy destroying ducks in a row.

The last time we saw Mc conall he couldn’t talk. Then they should him sitting up in the hospital smiling ☺️ oh how nice and sweet that is but, it’s a very old picture? When your in the senate how sweet it is. Oh Get Well ❤️‍🩹 Soon 🔜? Maybe?🤔
