I’d rather ban corporations from buying homes for cash and flipping them into Airbnbs.

When I own a town it will be illegal to own a house you don’t live in. If an apartment building you will still have to live in one unit, rent out the rest.

💯! I stopped AirBnb’ing when co-founder Joe Gebbia clearly was MAGA. Then he joined DOGE and was appointed Trump's first U.S. Chief Design Officer.

For the life of me I don’t understand the attraction of checking in to a stranger’s home for a vacation. Give me a hotel with room service, etc.

I've always found it weird. And I especially hate it now after the last Xmas get together with the family. They rented an Airbnb, and it was in a neighborhood of nothing but corporate Airbnb homes, and a massive amount of them, and I kept thinking about how this could have been a normal neighborhood

I co-run an Airbnb to support my father in his retirement (his old house; but due to poor health, lives with my sister.) Big draw for our home is that we allow pets, and we are in the heart of the Lakes Region (NH). Hotels here are insanely priced. Affordability is a big attraction.

Counterpoint: I recently vacationed with a friend. We didn't want to share one hotel room but we wanted to be able to hang out. The Airbnb condo was an excellent solution for us. Also, for women, Uber is much safer than a random cab.

"Uber is much safer than a random cab." Yeah, they had to create an option for women to specify a female driver because MALE DRIVERS WERE ASSAULTING PASSENGERS. Hotels have an option where you can have side by side rooms with a door in between. Not sharing but can still hang out.

What if you’re traveling with a big group? What if you have 4 kids and don’t want to split them up in hotel rooms? What if you prefer cool amenities like a private hot tub or a movie room? What if you prefer cooking to eating out? Lots of reasons to prefer an Airbnb.

Exactly. Because you know who is cleaning up the Airbnbs under this? People who desperately need a job, or a second or third job. It's a lot cheaper and easier to exploit them than having to police the (over)paying guests who don't clean up after themselves and will fight over the surcharges.

If I was a private homeowner using Air BnB I wouldn't want to come home to someone else's mess. This idea is purely for corporate management so they can exploit cheap labor.

My small city has been trying to reclassify Airbnbs as motels, which blocks them from existing in residential areas, and they are being fought legally. These new rules should assist them in this fight since the platform seems to be admitting that they are, indeed, motels.

Corporations buying up homes to rent out is the #1 cause of inflated property values and property taxes. White conservatives RUIN EVERYTHING.

Big whoop about sink and bed --cause I never minded doing my few dishes so I'd MUCH rather ban corporations as you suggest. That would mean something.

they never did need to. if an air bnb didn't mention that upfront before the rental was locked in it would have been an illegal hidden fee. the renter could have sent an invoice to the air bnb for their cleaning services and they would have been forced to pay if taken to small claims court

🤔 Yep, Data compiled by third-party groups like Inside Airbnb indicates that approximately 3 out of every 5 Airbnb listings (60%) are controlled by multi-property rental investors or corporate property management operations rather than casual "mom-and-pop" hosts
