So sad that Telegram has a bad reputation in the West. It's *by far* the best UI/UX messenger out there. WhatsApp doesn't even come close (although I love the fact that it runs on the BEAM).

For me there 2 are in different leagues. Telegram is not end to end encryption so it cannot replace Signal/Whatsapp. Perfect for various bots, discord/IRC replacement, but not Signal or Whatsapp.

e2e encryption comes at a cost of usability, and in Telegram it does exist since day 1, I think, you only need to explicitly start e2e-encrypted chats

Again, I'm very long time telegram user, since ~2015 when I learned about github.com/telegramdesk... 😀 Telegram does a lot of things right - UX, native clients, animations, top quality work. It's just NOT signal or WhatsApp replacement for any of my private chats. Great for bots, groups.
