At this moment, on July 20, 1969, people around the world held their breaths, waiting to hear the words "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed" as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made history and became the first humans to land on another celestial body, the moon.

One of the most awesome moments in my life. As a 15 year old, I was bursting with pride to be an American. That has dramatically changed as I'm not proud of this country under Trump and his MAGAts in any way.

56 years later, a new generation can hopefully experience that nervous excitement, not only in old footage, but with mankind taking that giant leap, one small step at a time, once again as NASA prepares to go back to the moon and beyond with the Artemis Missions.

Seems amazing to me that as a species we were curious, and talented, and brave enough to put matters of this planet aside and be like, "We want to go to there. How rad would that be? Let's do it." And then we actually did it.

It was such an impactful event! Everyone was so proud of the accomplishment. Certainly no one said we should have spent the money to improve society. The word hoax hadn't been invented yet.

I was in Nuremburg, Germany. It was night there. The city was quiet. Touchdown. The city exploded, cheers and car horns. Next morning, people kept coming up to me & shaking my hand. We -- the Americans and Germans -- had beaten the Russians to the Moon.

My grandmother was babysitting me that day in Alabama. I sat on the floor looking up at the TV. She was full of folklore and was sure the moon was going to turn to blood once humans touched it. I knew it was BS but a part of me though it possible at the time, ha ha. Kinda held my breath...

I watched from my grandmother's house and my uncle helped me film the TV with a super 8 camera. I still have the film. The 50th anniversary celebration in Washington was outstanding. A selfie in front of Armstrong's moon walk suit was the best!

I remember it well. Such a busy time. My late husband was Supervising tech Officer at NASACOM Australia in Canberra at the time. He was hardly at home. His 30th birthday was the day they walked on the moon.😊

I still remember trying to wake mom and dad up when they landed and when they walked on the moon. We had all stayed up to watch it. I was the only one who saw it. That was the first time I learned that reality could eclipse history.

Amazed by the number of people I’ve met that don’t “believe” it happened. The reason we did not go back after Apollo 17 was the cost, shuttle $1 billion/launch to low earth orbit and ISS $150 billion to build. Church seems to be the common reason why they didn’t believe.

Watch the movie Hidden Figures. It shows how brilliant the people in the space program are. First we orbited earth then we landed on the moon. Do not disrespect those people.

I remember watching it in 6th grade class on a black and white TV. It promised so much for the future, which was delivered but in a way completely different to what I expected. Now get off my lawn, I have a cloud to yell at.

I'll always remember being in my parents' room with the windows covered while my dad took pictures of the TV. Sadly, he only lived five years more, but I'm sure he would have gotten a kick out of the collectible DVD set I would have bought for him one Christmas!

It was awe-inspiring. Unfortunately, I cannot say I feel the same way about the current situation at NASA. It seems a hollow goal to go back to the moon...why?? Been there, done that. And please spare me the BS of going to Mars. We already know life is UNSUSTAINABLE there. Save THIS planet!!!!

I was lying on the family room floor, Mom and Dad and Marg all in chairs as we watched it happen. Horrible grainy black and white images with minutes of delay but our team was on another world. It was the true meaning of awesome.

At this moment, on July 20, 2025, people around the world hold their breaths, waiting to hear the words "Washington, the list are public, he is arrested.”

we did not land on the moon, nor did we even circle it. it is impossible for humans to transit through the Van Allen radiation belt without a huge, lead-shielded ship to protect against solar radiation. that ship would be have to be built in an earth orbiting shipyard, many years in the future.

It always blows my mind watching the approach and knowing that the count down is NOT the distance to land on the moon... It's how little fuel they had left. Amazing, top tier work by heroes all around. Give DOD budget to education. Give education to NASA Run DoD on NASA budget Just 1 year.

I was 15… all my heroes (besides my dad) were astronauts. I wanted to BE an astronaut. Nobody had told me yet that I couldn’t be one, because I was a girl. And girls couldn’t DO that.

Same age as you on that day. Delerious, watching on my small B/W TV. Same ambition too, although I'd resigned myself to just someday making it into space in low Earth orbit. I knew back then the energy levels for an Alcubierre Warp bubble or anything similar were centuries if not millenia away.

Maybe it was in 2009, I don't remember, but you re-broadcast the moon landing recordings, minute by minute exactly as they would have happened. I roped in my 6 and 9 year old girls to the excitement of those original recordings. Damn powerful stuff, even 40 years on.

The Earth is Flat. Area 51 is hiding aliens. JFK was killed by the Mafia. Jimmy Hoffa is sausage. Climate change is a hoax. The moon landing was faked. If I missed anything let me know. P.S. Lend me a spaceship and prove me wrong. I need to GTFO this rock. It's full of evil humans.

I watched it as an 8 year old in our basement in Halifax Nova Scotia. So sad that that era, where America did things that were admired the world over, appears to be gone for a long time. But the billionaires are doing well, so… (So fuck the money hoarding billionaires)

Back in the day when the USA respected its allies and the work they contributed to times like these. If The Dish was required now, the temptation would be strong to pull the plug at the most inconvenient time.

An American hero, but he supported Trump during his first term, and said that the nation “is best served”, by voting for him (Trump) in 2024. If you look at his photos and listen to his words, he sounds/looks, different. A great man, but suspicious, Trump adulation.

…and this is why we have to remove all the anti-education, anti-science, truth-deniers in any level of government they happen to pop up in. It takes generations of smart kids and smarter adults to accomplish great strides in this country. Educating everyone is the key 👩🏻‍🎓.
