That happened in 2008. There was about 5-7 years of good. Then it got worse than 2007.

The corporate credit bust that happened from late 2000 through early 2003 was like a slow motion car wreck. Everyone kept thinking it was finally over...but another shoe kept dropping.

I was working on Dell.com at the time. Our web tech was pretty good for the time, but of course Dell’s sales (and stock price) was heavily weighted on server sales, which dried up when the dotcoms went boom.

Job-wise, the dot-com bust was nuclear winter for eight months.

It’s hard to beat the traders at their own game— so I diversified into a mix of mutual funds and treasuries, but it’s all a risk. You could sell your stocks and put the cash in the bank, but really no place is safe. Maybe that mattress is the way to go…

I was also in the middle of it, although not in Silicon Valley. Interviewed with startups all over the country in the late '90s. Was laid off by AOL after the Time Warner merger and just before 9/11. The biz models--or lack thereof--were nuts. Very "Underpants Gnomes."

it was wild seeing Google go all-in on the Stadia boondoggle like. it wasn't just that you needed the kind of fast Internet connection MOST OF THE COUNTRY DID NOT HAVE have for it to be REMOTELY playable; it's that it would NEVER be as good as a console/PC in your own room by sheer dint of LATENCY

And Trump will try to get it pushed through so he can take a cut of the fix. So that’s another $10T on the national debt… except the whole world will be fucked, so who is buying those bonds? Maybe better to not bail anyone out — let them fail, so something better can rise from the ashes
