A part of this not mentioned is that Texas used to let kids transition. I volunteered at a camp for trans kids in Houston when I was in college (pre transition I know I know how did I not know I was trans). Guess where part of that camp was? Texas Children’s. That’s how much we lost

its insane how not many people are talking about how republicans with the help of several moderate democrats are building out the largest abusive medical conversion therapy operation in modern american history

There was so much to hope for being trans in 2011 even in Texas and it’s all gone, it’s all gone because every cis person decided to shouldn’t exist. It is collectively their fault that we don’t have a kinder world, and that the kids that need this care will in many cases die from lack of it

Someone’s gonna come on this and say “no, republicans did this.” At the time Im talking the reason supportive parents even had the option to get that care for there kids was conservative judges in Houston who were parents rights. It wasn’t a bipartisan issue in the same way it is today.

The reason it’s like this is because republicans latched onto it as a way to make fun of democrats and instead of standing up for us the party had collectively dragged their feet or actively resisted helping us. Talarico is running partially in a platform that would ban the care I saw in Texas.

The fact I would give up being able to marry my wife to go back to the political environment when I came out in 2009/2010 when I felt safe/comfortable enough to wear whatever I wanted and feel safe is depressing. Half of my wife and i's closet is stuff we don't feel safe enough to venture

Out in anymore, even if we're out together. Considering the fact i manage to pass with zero issues even when I look like utter shit yet am terrified to wear a skirt out in public let alone a dress is monumentally pathetic. I'm failing as a trans elder not living authenticity IMHO.

It's why the "trans people just can't accept this is about incremental changes" BS is so insulting, these are massive rollbacks!

imo, it's increasingly critical we constantly remind people the ONLY actual reason for GAC bans is because it DOES actually succeed in helping vast majority of trans people live happier, more functional lives. NO other treatment for anything would be "banned" if had even close to success rate of GAC
