One thing I want to make clear! If you set your username to a domain, you can change it later without any loss to your account. Let me step through some scenarios:

i dont think there is anything inherently to bluesky unless they are limiting character-sets most domain registras dont let you use confusing glyphs, but its not illegal for a registra to permit it most browsers will alert the user, but the bsky app might not

only option, perhaps, is to use some font face which clearly distinguishes between similar characters. like some monospaced fonts. but it is only a partial solution old twitter did this to differentiate between 0 and O, I and l and 1, and so on

A while back I tried setting a handle to a domain name containing an å, and Bluesky said that was an invalid handle and wouldn't let me. So there's definitely some character set limiting going on.
