this is a bit of an oversimplification that like,, also implies that commissioning art would be bad? idk how to explain it but its more complicated than not wanting to do art. its not respecting or understanding it as a concept at all
Nothing about commissioning artists is remotely like off-sourcing creativity. The commissioner does not turn around and claim credit for the art the artist they commissioned created. They did not employ theft tactics to get that artwork done. They honored the skill and process. Sloppists don't.
There is no skill. There is no process. The sloppist is a sloppist because they fundamentally do not respect the work that goes into making art, UNLIKE the commissioner, who acknowledges the hard-earned skill and ability of the person they commission by ~paying~ them.
I hope this firm stance against AI covers the translation of his games as well and that he will voice this opinion loud and clear when the big localisation providers pitch cheap machine translations
Good. AI is trash. It is the fake crutch of people that dont want to learn a skill. Worse than that, it is sucking creativity out of society. Anyone can be an artist but people are too obsessed with the result while ignoring the process.
I dabbled briefly with generative AI when it was new to help my writing. I tried to use it to help me flesh out certain ideas. It didn’t work. It’s entirely derivative. I quickly found that the best things it supplied me were taken wholesale from existing works. They’re just plagiarism machines.
