Rheinmetall plans to ramp up production of Skynex and Skyranger air defense systems to around 400 units annually by 2027, reaching eight systems per week. Ukraine already operates Skynex systems and has been receiving Skyranger 35s mounted on Leopard 1 chassis since November 2025. #Ukraine

Well, I know that ... But calculate how many cities and how much of tge frontline you can protect with 400 systems with a maximum effective range of 2-2.5 km. So they will need to produce 20 years just to cover ukraine before they can export to any other country. So no, skynext is not the future

You can not imagine how happy I am, that the above #Skynex+#Skyranger systems, now successfully used by🇺🇦#Ukraine against #PutinWarCriminal, were developped by the former🇨🇭#Oerlikon eg of #Adats fame (now #Rheinmetall Air Defence) in #Zurich, #Switzerland, ie in the city I was born over 63 years ago🥰.

Sure, maybe tens of thousands is an exaggeration, but I'd rather have more systems available (meaning more systems could be used for other things, like point defense during operations) than having to decide which places to protect more and which to protect less (or leave entirely unprotected).

400 a year sounds like a lot until you count what Russia throws in a week. Still, gun-based hard kill is the cheap answer to Shaheds, and Ukraine running Skynex and Skyranger on Leopard 1 hulls is exactly the right place to prove it.
