Ukraine says air defenses downed or suppressed 257 Russian targets overnight: 2 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles and 255 drones, including 56 jet-powered Shaheds. Russia launched 280 drones in total, 69 of them jet-powered, with Kyiv the main target. #Ukraine

The Mokri Yaly push isnt about villages, its about the T-05-18 road. Every step west of the river tightens the squeeze on russian supply lines running south of Donetsk. Ground taken there costs them trucks, not just trenches.

🇺🇦Southern Donetsk Direction: The enemy is experiencing increasing difficulties in holding their positions along the Mokri Yaly river. As I mentioned before, our soldiers continue offensive operations in the areas of Fedorivka, Vesely, Shevchenko, and Vilne Pole, creating additional pressure on enemy

It only took them 4 years and 8 months. A UN Commission of Inquiry says Russia’s systematic attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, concluding they were intended to deprive civilians of essential services and cause suffering. #Ukraine

US and Ukrainian officials say Trump phoned Musk to ask him to life the restrictions. Trump trying to take credit for fixing problem he likely created himself. Congressional inquiry urgently needed to get to the bottom of who really created this clusterfuck.

Trump U-turns and starts to blame Iran for driving up the cost of diesel, after his plot to blame Ukraine and simultaneously force Kyiv to capitulate to fascist Russia crashes, rolls, burns and explodes.

From someone who has lived in Ukraine over 30 years (me), this is bullshit. Hundreds of billions didn't flow to Ukraine - Ukraine's oligarchs made their (relatively modest) fortunes by ripping off Ukrainians, not foreigners. Ukrainians are fighting to stop this happening again.

Looking back, from the high vantage point of the future, we might see that Musk's most significant achievement was to destroy the lingusitic association between "rocket scientist" and "intelligent."

Now that the US is no longer a reliable partner, it's essential that the Freya ant-ballistic missile system enters service as quickly as possible. Ukraine, even in wartime, has delivered its part of the work. Can Kyiv's partner nations keep up though?

I signed on for a Blue Tick with Xitter as an experiment to see if it would boost my visibility and engagement rate. It has actually notably reduced. In particular, engagement really started to be choked off mid-June. #UkraineSilenced

Amid the brouhaha over allegations of limits on intelligence sharing and the proved throttling of Ukraine's Starshield, a 3rd way Trump is aiding Putin hasn't had much press - the blocking of supplies of paid-for Patriot interceptors. This delay is costing Ukrainian lives.

Kyiv again under attack by Russian ballistic missiles. Several loud explosions. A strike just hit the Holosiiv and Chabany districts. The missiles were only detected as they were falling on their targets, Telegram monitors say. Around 10 missiles fired.

Students. Target selection was intentional. Moscow hits universities and dorms because the goal is to break the generation that rebuilds the country. Solidarity with the wounded in Kyiv tonight.

Musk cut Starlink over Crimea in 2022 on his own call, so the admission isnt a shock. The real problem is structural: Ukraine's front-line comms depend on a private kill switch. Redundancy Kyiv controls is the fix, not a warmer relationship with the owner.

$500M against a $5B award is a start, not a win. The precedent carries the weight here: courts in Helsinki and Vienna just showed that Russian state property abroad is legally reachable. Every other jurisdiction holding Russian assets now has a template.

This concerns Russian assets that could be confiscated in favor of "Naftogaz of Ukraine" as compensation for property lost in Crimea. In 2023, an arbitration court awarded the company over $5 billion, but Russia refused to pay.

The crew losing it in cloud then finding it again is the real lesson. Jet Gerans are built to slip past on speed and weather, and a persistent interceptor team turns that into a wasted airframe. Cheap kill, expensive miss for Moscow.

Worth testing, but the test isnt the announcement. Russia has agreed to silence regimes before and fired through them. Monitors on both sides and aid actually reaching the bank, or its just a photo op over occupied ground.

A 46-year-old woman killed in her own city, 14 wounded, six districts hit. Ballistic strikes on a capital at night are a targeting decision, not a battlefield necessity. The interceptor gap over Kyiv is what Moscow is pricing in.

Next to the casualty curve, that flat territory line captures the entire war. Russia went from 7% to 19% early, then spent four years and over a million casualties holding it. Gains per month keep shrinking while the cost per kilometer climbs. That adds up to a bill.

Jake Broe@realjakebroe.bsky.social

This chart is insane. This shows Russia's casualties over time compared to Russia's territorial gains in Ukraine over the last five years. No sane or rational person would say continuing the war to try and take more of Ukraine's territory is worth the casualties.
