So it's the second option. She "stayed upstairs". I think we could have interpreted her confusion about Theresa, Sara, and Steven being mysteriously downstairs earlier as playing to their characters, OR as known friends going to eat. Especially as they were being so coy and mysterious.

The fuck?--No it doesnt!? That is an extremely irresponsible conclusion for a woman of mad science to jump to! Such reckless conjecture could only sew discord and cast dispersion on poor Steven who definitely, probably, maybe didn't do it! How Could she be so thoughtless at a time of crisis!?!?

After the magical chaos of the last few years, I'm glad this year's story arc is a simple pretend murder mystery where the players are really harming it up. The normalcy where the characters are just having fun is the kind of stuff I live for.
