I value an editor that works with as little time spent configuring it, and I have invested enough time in VSCode+Rider to not have to configure it anymore. swapping editors would change my entire workflow and spend a ton of time configuring it for little productivity gains

I've heard good things about helix, I just tend to stay away from "opinionated" editors unless I'm super comfy. I can't stand regular JetBrains IDEs unless I get to import all my tuned settings & plugins

hehe yeah i like the feeling of getting the work environment set up just right. i do like plugin systems, as a modder and disabled person with particular tastes they please me. i will 100% say that the years i spent learning and configuring neovim were, though not wasted, a sisyphean effort

fair enough! i used vscode for a long time too. i do kinda miss having shit just work for so many different things, from platformio to debugging commercial game engines,. i have not used rider in a few years but it is still not worth it to me due to corporate claw-digging legalities, but also, hjkl
