Rest of the World travel advisory: America, United States of - avoid, risk of arrest, detention and disappearance. Country of origin may not be informed of disappearance.

Anybody traveling into the US from abroad should post their names here. That way, it will be easier to point at you and say "Okay dumbass, hope you end up in detention in El Salvador!" What the fuck is wrong with you people?

Those of us who remember the line, “papers please” (spoken in a German accent) that was in so many WWII war and Cold war spy films for decades might recognize the feeling of now enjoyed by the US populace. “Ach, yoo are goink to veezit grandmama jess? Papieren bitte.” We’re SO great again.

This has been so stressful! It's taken 2 YEARS to get an appt at the 1 DMV on my island, & I only got it bc I broke down in hysterical tears & begged. All my mail goes to a PO Box, I don't own a home, pay rent, have utility bills, a gun or a car, so getting 2 proofs of address also near impossible!

I don't need to worry about this since there's no way I am going more than 200 miles from house once a year unless I get kidnapped If I get kidnapped it probably won't matter At least have the decency to take me to California

Real ID is Real BS. Your drivers license is all the proof you need. They have your social security number in the database. Anything else is a nonsensical cash grab by the government. And an excuse to keep people in country.

DM: As you approach the gate a guard stops you. His eyes are dead from the monotony of the bureaucracy. Automatically his hand reaches out, challenging your attempt to enter. Okay, everyone roll for Paperwork. The DC is at least 18.

It’s not that we don’t have IDs, it’s that they have been floundering for the past 10+ years to roll out this program for a new version of IDs that require citizens to go through extra verification. Citizens with passports can just use those and are otherwise unaffected.

Also I’d like to correct myself. It’s been literally 20 years since the law that mandated RealID was passed…was supposed to go into effect 2008. For our non American bsky friends: yes, America really is that dysfunctional.

Can anyone show me the statistics that pointed to the need for all of us to constantly prove we are who we say we are. And also, data regarding fraud committed and the cost of that fraud by people lying 🤥 about who they are getting on planes and voting???

It doesn't matter. I certainly don't and I have refused to use the facial id phone locks for the same reason but unless you're going to use a state ID and never fly, eventually all driver's licenses are going to be real ID. I don't even like having my picture in a database but I had to fly.

I'm very happy that we are getting ID-compliant licenses. Next I'd like to get telescreens installed in all Democratic households, that way party members could watch government approved programming and the government could kindly watch us. This wouldn't be necessary for patriotic Republicans.

I had planned to upgrade my standard state id to a Real id, but I don't plan to travel anywhere and if Real id isn't going to be compliant in voting, what's the point? Getting a passport is having harder and pretty expensive. So screwed either way.

My mother is 75, born and raised in the Midwest. Because of mistakes her mother made in the 50's, my mother now has no legal way to acquire a passport or Real ID. So she won't be able to fly or maybe even vote in the next election.

My grandmother has similar issues, a flood in 1938 caused her DOB to be wrong but not realized until 65 years later thanks to Medicare automation (she is probably one of the “fraud” names) with marriages and widow status she can never get a “real ID”.

I received 2 new driver's licenses in 2 different states after the Real ID law was passed on 11 May 2005 and neither were compliant with the law. At 65, I had to get a new driver's license in Florida and they were sure to tell me it qualified as a Real ID. What took so long, Florida?

Imagine the queues in the coming weeks? Another reason to not travel in the US. The TSA will be power drunk and it’s going to be a complete shitshow.

High key, I started carrying my passport everywhere with me and I have multiple copies of my, my husband’s, and my kids’ birth certificates and social security cards in a folder that I also have in a portable container. I haven’t added a bug out bag to my car yet, but I will soon.

Be forewarned - I was almost not able to renew my drivers license this year even with a drivers license, a birth certificate and a marriage license. I had to go home to retrieve my passport. I am 72 and have had a drivers license and clean driving record since I was 16.

No one is ready for the Real ID. Someone I know said the driver services appointments are booked until July. I guess they could go to the county clerk. Many people don’t follow the news( why we have Trump as President) and they have no clue.

Most states have been issuing realid by default for several years now. If you have a gold star in the top right corner it's real-id compliant. I'd be surprised if someone still doesn't have one unless they just haven't renewed their license in a long time or live in a state where it's not default

Agreed. To get a Real ID you have to show your birth certificate, your marriage license if you changed your last name, and 2 proofs of residency in your state. How is that not enough to use your Real ID for voting? It's ridiculous

I don’t get it either but then again it’s the fascists . Look at the other stipulations like you need the same name that’s on your birth certificate to vote . You know how many married women that’s going to disqualify? I pray this never becomes law.
