We’re going to be hearing more and more about the riots in Europe as Republicans use them to try to scare people that we’re headed the same way if Democrats take control of Congress. I am willing to bet there’s Republican and European right wing $ funding the looting and rioting.

Look at this whiny little bitch. Typical Republican!

Republican Rep. Andy Harris incorrectly told a reporter they were breaking the law as the reporter and others recorded an exchange with him last night. Harris had just wrapped up a debate with Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz.

I can't think of a better way to symbolize the triumph of American freedoms than a massive arch with snipers positioned on top of it. So inspiring!

After today's shameful display of medical McCarthyism, imagine the next pandemic. Imagine that world's foremost expert on infectious diseases considering jumping in to help millions of people. We are in a deeply dark and disturbing place for the future of science. And for the future, period.

Sorry folks, but this is just as much pie in the sky bullshit as Libertarians thinking wouldn’t it be swell if we had no government. And worse, it plays DIRECTLY into the hands of Republicans who claim Democrats are Communists/5

Because what the DSA describes here is sure as hell not the kind of socialism practiced in much of Europe. THAT can be sold to the American people. Not whatever the hell this is. /end

Speaking of bills: you don’t really have them anymore. You have no debt. You don’t need health insurance. You don’t pay a mortgage or have a landlord, because comfortable housing is a human right. Your retirement is publicly funded. /3

Your retirement is publicly funded. Food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation aren’t for-profit businesses; they are common goods and utilities” /4

It might not feel as badly needed as it does now. You enjoy your work; it’s interesting to you, and you’re well trained for it. You work as much as you are able and no more than needed, and you would control your own labor and see it going to good use. It’s not just a job to pay the bills. /2

Billions of people around the world are passionate about soccer. The World Cup has been really fun to watch. But…..having no specific time limit on the games is STUPID. I get the concept of Extra Time, but why is the ref the only one in the entire audience who knows exactly how much time is left?

Trump could have quietly placed a call to the head of FIFA and encouraged him to review the red card call. It could have been overturned without any attribution to Trump.

But of course, he couldn’t do that. He had to claim credit. And now, whatever happens with the US team will be forever tainted in the eyes of the world. Everything Trump touches dies.

4 Supreme Court justices felt a Constitutional Amendment doesn’t mean anything if they don’t like it. We should be very, very afraid here.

When our kids were maybe 10 and 13, we decided it would be fun to take them to a Broadway show. We saw The Producers. During the opening number the Nathan Lane character (he wasn’t in the cast then) yells out “WHO DO I HAVE TO FUCK TO GET A JOB IN THIS TOWN”. Oops www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

nytimes.comHappy 100th Birthday, Mel Brooks! (Gift Article)Here are 100 reasons to love the comedy writer, director and star who’s celebrating a milestone on Sunday and who’s changed our culture in surprising ways.

Personally, I’m looking forward to the day I can say “WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT” and not have everyone immediately know who I’m talking about.

I’ve been an atheist for a long time, but if the predictions for downpours, lightning strikes, and plagues of mosquitoes at the Trump Birthday nonsense hold true, I just might change my mind.

I still watch @cbsnews.com for personal reasons. Last night they ran a long segment on the firing of Scott Pelley. In the first part they described what happened, with quotes from both he and new mgmt. Very balanced with both sides represented (1 of 3)

Then Tony Dokoupil went on at length about Pelley’s history with CBS, his high journalistic standards, and his integrity. He held Pelley out as a role model. Highly complimentary. (2 of 3)

I was shocked and very pleasantly surprised. @cbsnews.com didn’t have to do this. (I joked that either Tony or the producer would be fired today). They get bashed a lot, and sometimes it’s well deserved, but last night, at least, showed that maybe there’s hope they aren’t as bad as we all fear (end)

Pulte's main job as DNI will be to gather intel on Republicans for Trump and his minions to make sure they hold the line going forward.

Andrew Weissmann@weissmann.substack.com

The head of the Director of National Intelligence “shall have extensive national security expertise.” 50 USC § 3023. Hasn't Trump then just nominated someone who cannot hold the position legally. Of course, anyone who cares about American security would appoint someone with the required experience.

Pulte is a nepo baby just like Trump Pulte is an election denier just like Trump Pulte is completely unqualified for this office just like Trump Pulte is only interested in revenge on perceived enemies just like Trump. Pulte is an asshole just like Trump Pulte will be a disaster just like Trump
