I believe in regulated capitalism with core socialistic functions, such as healthcare, utilities, infrastructure, and education. There can be private insurance but there needs to be a baseline that all receive. Same with school, gov't needs to invest in schools including colleges and vocational.

The US is falling behind, schools and infrastructure, and it is pathetic. If it is not these core areas, along with safety, what should the gov't be focused on?

People who live in democratic socialist countries report higher levels of happiness. Pretty sure the framers of the U.S. Constitution didn’t intend our “pursuit of happiness” to be either Quixotic or Sisyphean.

Yup, Germans are grumbling and bitching sometimes (which I think people do everywhere) but once they see the darker side of the social gaps in other countries, they tend to reconsider. Travelling helps quite a bit there (general advice).

It means a more formal way to support one another in equitable access to resources. Currently we are already democratic socialists because we are standing together to feed our neighbors since the regime is choosing to starve them.

Any role for the government to benefit the public would be a refreshing change. Historically, the government has only taken a role to benefit wealthy special interests and itself.

As a Saskadelphian I can assure you democratic socialism is not only viable but makes for a great life universal health care regulated utilities (no gouging) social assistance and the best football team in the world (last part has nothing to do with it and isn't true but still valid)

Socialist is just a word billionaires invented for anyone who thinks our tax dollars should pay for infrastructure and services that benefit working people instead of just paying for bombs and endless corporate subsidies that never have and never will trickle down.

Oh, no. Should we consider not giving massive subsidies and tax breaks to corporations so we can all benefit from programs like universal healthcare and paid parental leave? That might make oil magnates and billionaires mad, and we know they’re more important citizens than us.

I dislike DSA. I Like Mamdani. I think he will do good for NY. We are big tent (Republicans ARE NOT) and we have to remember that. We have to support the person who people have elected for their area. That is common sense. Spanberger won Gov of Virginia. Also great! No circular firing squads pls.

I don't want to fight about it because we have different views. Was Manchin good for West Virginia? A dem in an R+26 seat? Yeah. It gave us another senate seat which we lost after he was forced out and Jim Justice (R) took over. Did I like him? No. But he still voted with Biden MOST of the time.

Crony Capitalism definitely does NOT serve the people. If our future in the world of business, technology, medicine, education & quality of life has any chance, it'll be in democratic socialism or something more like it.

Most Americans don't know what socialism or capitalism is. If they did they would know how much socialism is in our system, and how for both good and bad.

Democratic Socialism DOES have a standard definition and is quite commonly used across Europe. The problem is that here in the USA, far-right group have traditionally screamed SOCIALISM about anything they don't like, from Social Security to the Interstate Highway System.

It’s the left that seem to think that public services are socialist. The left will define democratic socialist because that’s what they are claiming Mandami is. Can he deliver on his promises of free transit in New York City? What will cover the lost revenue from the fares?

In Europe, Democratic Socialism is defined as being a democratic system (meaning based upon the will of the people as expressed in elections) that emphasizes social welfare and a strong social safety net. Democratic Socialism does NOT mean government ownership of all companies or other nonsense.
