Dear NPR: I've supported you for literally decades. But something has gone terribly wrong. You need to take a good long look in the mirror. You're failing your mission.

The media needs to choose, says @brianbeutler.bsky.social: "Depict the parties as they are, or fabricate 'balance' and misinform the citizenry." Good look at media's ongoing failure to be honest about today's GOP: www.offmessage.net/p/media-fail...

Maybe a little but they’re still not going after the violent criminals and departing hard working people. And there’s no cameras in the concentration camps sooooo

So, more evidence of actual crimes committed for which they'll demand immunity anyway. Yeah... that'll really help. (Now they'll have a weekly highlights reel to show the troops over lunch.)

If no one can access the footage but ICE/DOJ (cannot subpoena nor view the unedited footage), and ICE is immune from prosecution anyway, the cameras are worthless. If you can shoot a woman in the face in front of the world, call her a bitch on camera and keep your job, why not give cameras to all?

lol no, npr reporter insanely out of touch, must be a day ending in y. Nobody who distrusts ice because of their abhorrent behavior is going to believe any body cam footage. It’s all going to be selective editing at best or totally fabricated.

Or, you know, simply abolish them. You can't rehab this. You don't simply set up a camera to monitor a malignancy expect it to stop growing. You excise that shit. Cut the tumor from the body. Then scorch the vestiges out.

The only difference the cameras make is that they will take the time to turn them off. Possibly giving someone time to get to safety. Accountability later will come from everyday citizens recording ICE with their phones. The Hague should be involved for true accountability.

This is just a little bit silly. ICE is above the law. DOJ is owned by Trump Inc and is not only going to never enforce body cams it will never prosecute the most heinous murders. To do so would totally undermine the whole point of the exercise which is to prove that we are under Fascist Rule.

Exactly what I was thinking! When you announce this, you are saying you aren't serious about using the cams for the purpose intended. We all know by now that ICE doesn't want to use these cameras and will report what is revealed that serves their purposes. It's a joke!

This is total nonsense. The Feds have clearly said that there is no process for using these cameras to hold officers accountable. When there is a policy of total impunity, what difference does it make if there are cameras recording the behavior. We need to directly attack xenophobia.

How many deaths and violent assault have they hidden? Put nothing past them! & People will never be safe from this administration's version of immigration. Even when doing it the right way went wrong or many now their family and homes are destroyed. That is not the American way we were taught about.

body cameras don't reduce police violence, ICE or otherwise. The police control the edit on what gets released, can turn the cameras off at will, and refuse to release footage that doesn't reinforce their narrative. They are tools to be used against the people.
